Gotta admit those Blue bumps have me intrigued. Hell, I head to Okemo each spring to ski their bumps and Blue is probably only 30 minutes further. Could make for a good option if SoVT is powderless and frozen and Blue is soft and sunny.

Anyway, exactly what trails and how much of them are seeded? Is there a way to link the fields up in a single run? What type of lift would service such a run (HSQ?). Finally, out of Blue's total vertical, how much mogul vertical could you get in a single run?

I figure if the bumps are soft and plentiful and you can get a good amount of bump skiing in lapping a high-speed lift, Blue might require some serious consideration.

Ok I was there last Sunday. Blue had basically 3 bumped up runs. Challange which is the one you've seen pictures of, Nightmare, which is a new but short trail, and Barneys Bumps. The Challange bumps went down about a 1/3 of the vertical drop. There is plenty of hill to extend them but if Blue will do that or not I can't tell you. Nightmare like I said is short but the moguls were fun. Barney's actually has the longest field of the 3, about half the vertical of the older lower area..

As far as softer snow. Yes the Pocono's usually has plenty of soft snow in March and would be a good alternative to a frozen north country.

FWIW, Camelback currently has 2 bumped runs and is planning on a 3rd (Cliffhanger) which will probably encompass 2/3's of the 800 vertical. Elk Mt also currently has 2 bump runs that run about 1/2 the 1000" vertical. Elk might also have a 3rd (Seneca) if mother nature cooperates. Come down and see us in the Banana Belt Greg if its frozen up north.

Oh yeah: All Blue's bump runs can be accessed by high speed lifts. Same for Camelback. No high speeds at Elk.

It might be time for an intervention. You're talking about driving 3+ hours to ski seeded bumps in the Poconos (albeit with some fresh snow coming) when reports like this are coming in from places a similar distance north.

he he he...tru dat.

Greg; What Alex said. All three runs can be accessed by the HSQ or 6-pac (also HS). Although Barny's will require some traversing back to those lifts. Those two lifts boot you up to the top in a hurry so many many runs can be had. If you hook up with a speedster with a season pass (aka Root) he can get you in the VIP line as his guest and you can skip any lift lines too.

While the Pocono's are great to have as home hills I do agree with this statement. Only if the north country was frozen up solid would I recommend the trip.

The lifts are quick. On Saturday morning, we can get in 6-8 runs per hour before the crowds show. There's no reason why they couldn't seed 1/2 of Challenge down further. After the bump field ends, the pitch mellows out a lot.

All but 4 (out of 30) trails are accessible from the the quad or six pack. Main Street (Barney's Bumps) gets really soft and the bump run is about as long as the one on Challenge. Blue has a track record of closing with good snow on the hill, but there should be enough warm days before then.

4aprice: do you think CBK will retro other mountain pass holders again? Do you think they would honor a Sundown pass?

not to hijack this but all season passholders get to cut the line?
Yes, we have our own line on both high speed lifts. Blue runs a very good liftline system on the weekend. There's separate queues for singles, doubles, triples, quads, 5s and 6s. Then there's the VIP line. If the VIP line is empty, the liftie will group a 1/5, 2/4, 3/2/1, etc to empty the queue. If the VIP line gets backed up, sometimes the liftie will take 3-4 groups out of the VIP line (of any size) and pair them up with people from the regular line. This works out good for the singles line also. The race team trumps all. I'm getting a blue Sypder jacket next season :smash: Yet somehow, people still seem to mess this up...

I thought it was any season pass so I don't see why not. Camelback will stay open as long as they can. They have events planned right up to the end of March and there have been times when skiing has lasted into April. A little elevation helps. They even blew snow in mid/late March last year.

Thanks for the info guys! and yeah, I'm thinking more in terms of an option for if it's bulletproof up north, kinda like last March. Of course, by then I'll have 600 vert of bumps right next door, but if the mogul reports on Blue in the next few weeks continue to be positive, and the north country is snow-starved, it's an option.
