I couldn't resist.. but their website totally lacking also...:flame:

They have a good excuse, they're really beefing up their snowmaking and infrastructure. Serious money is flowing in, and remember, they are not a destination resort. Lots of the small day area sites are not updated yet.

Over the last few years, I've seen a lot of site updates occur very close to opening, of course that's a bit late in my book, but then again ,snow is on my brain.. But I live surrounded by flatlanders who don't even think about skiing until they see it in their backyards. That used to drive me crazy when I ran a ski club. you could NOT get people to signup for a Jan/Feb trip in Sept/Oct/Nov. We had to drop a number of trips because we couldn't meet the deadline. The first day is snowed a half inch, we had 20-40 apps... Go figger...

I don't think advertising is lost on ski areas, they know they have to keep in people's faces to remind them.

I meant to write up a quick report about the boston ski show but it never happened. Among the folks I spoke to was Bob Fries, he was very nice and patient explaining what the resort's plans were in terms of future development at the ski area, golf course and home/condo sites.

I wrote up a report this summer about a visit my son and I made up there and everything reported then in terms of the snow-making pond, work on lifts, on-mountain snow-making improvements, and trail work seems to have taken place. Bob pointed out that one whole section of the mountain which hasn't been open for a couple of years will be open this year.

I did complain - good-naturedly - that I hadn't been able to utilize free lift tickets that I had received last year (and previous years) given the lack of open days at the mountain. Bob said that they were honoring last year's coupons in some way - a partial discount on day passes, I think - can't remember the specifics now b/c I went home and checked if I had kept them - had not and quickly forgot - but might be worth a call up there for people who are pack-rats!

Again, I've heard good things about this place when they have coverage - hope to get there this season!

Ragged is one of the best places I've ever skied when they have coverage. V-Day weekend there last year was incredible. Glades off the six pack were waist deep in some places. I've been talking to one of their employees on snowjournal who says that the site is a work in progress. IMO, websites are the most common way for poeple to get info on a resort, so it's an important thing to have up to date and accessible. But then agaain, Ragged has never been great for that.

I was gonna go there on saturday, but then they pushed back their opening data again.

nice improvements

wow. While their web site may be in Intensive Care, the photo slide show is very impressive. While I always hear a lot of rhetoric from areas, the proof in this case, is in the photos. They did put their money where their mouth is. The on-mountain investments of certain large areas pale compared to this work, at least in the near-term. They have sunk huge amounts into capital improvements that will directly impact the skier experience - from lift maintenance to snowmaking piping, dredging the pond, new cats, rails, and fixing the (damn) parking lot. I think it's going to be a f-i-n-e place to ski this year, and they will certainly be prepared if they don't get enough frozen precip. It's back on my daytrip list for this year. It seems the new owner is really investing for the future.

Congrats Ragged!
http://www.ragged-mt.com/resortphotos.asp (you have to wade through the first three "Murray" photos, it's kinda slow, but worth it.

p.s., this would be a good "AZ challenge" They deserve the chance to do a little bragging.

hey has ragged always had 2 peaks?

I only remember 1

Spear was cut and the lift was put in sometime in the mid to late 90's. Since that time they added trails in the gorge between the two peaks. Not much was done since the installation of the six pack around 2001 or 2002.

Spear has not run for atleast one year maybe more. There has been talk of expansion to the third peak for years. For now Ragged needs to get their lifts and snowmaking functional as well as spread the word. It is a great place when there is natural.

I like what they have done to the website so far .. I just want to browse the finished product. For me, the website info creates excitement from the anticipation of what's to come... "info or text coming" creates no thrill.

I agree, I like the website. My only dissapointment was the new trail-map. The old trail map did not properly represent the trails/glades between the mountains and it looks like that has not been corrected.

Also, on the trail map, they should remove the two trails that go over the mountain and down the back side, as well as remap the area around the sixpack and, like thebigo said, remap the glades. or maybe remove the glades from the map. glades at ragged suck! yeah. they suck!

...Like the ski shop owner who drove up to his shop minutes after my 7;15am arrival, "Wanna Job?"
And the answer was (you can see this one coming), "sorry, it's a powder day..."
