Resort or Ski Area: Ragged Mtn

Conditions: 13 inches of dense pow. Windy, on and off snow showers.

Trip Report:

After getting a little lost on the way (road signs were covered with snow) I pulled into the Ragged lot at about 8:30 and was prob the 6th car there. Got my ticket, booted up and hit the 6 pack around 9.

My first run very rough I decided to take sweepstakes down since it looked largely untracked. And it was, but the snow was dense and windblown. My Ripsticks decided to look for the base and dove straight down and I went over the handlebars. Did this 3 times on the way down. Once I got to the bottom I was hot sweaty and frustrated. Regrouped and headed back up. This time I went straight for the glades hitting Rags to Riches. This time around I got my pow legs back and figured how to work the ripsticks around. The glade was already getting a little tracked, but very nice.

Moved over to the triple which is uber slow but that mean that no one was on it or the trails. This is where the run of the day comes in . . . Hit the Not Too Shabby Glade and found the jackpot!

(sorry crappy cell phone photo) Looking down,

I pretty much lapped this for the rest of the day. It was just me and a couple stoner dudes (I kept crashing their safety meetings) skiing the trail. Even by noon there were still shots to be had:

Bottom looking up and much steeper than it looks in photo. And at least 4 of those tracks are mine.

Only skied one groomer all day after my legs were fried.

Want to hit this Sunday.....depending on how the weather goes on Friday, I'll either be there or be heading up to Burke.

the great thing about ragged is its still a secret, only locals go there. even on w/e, I would lap those glades (esp rags2riches), when I'm on the trail I would feel that I had the whole place to myself.

And if you want something different get on the slow triple at spears and straight down on showboat, toward the bottom it has a natural quarter pike, get enuf speed you can get on top of that pike and hit some moguls. However, I'm not sure if new ownership has changed that section.

There was a big gully towards the bottom that was roped off. In the middle of it was a 6 foot deep hole that had running water at the bottom. :-o Wouldn't want to end up there.

I have become rather good at hitting 6 foot gullies. Suggest you don't follow me to closely, as you most likely will be swimming out with me! :smash:

You would have needed a rope for this one!
