Date(s) Hiked: 8/5/2006
Trails(s) Hiked: First loop from the upper parking lot
Total Distance: About 2 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Conditions: Mid 80s bearable humidity
Special Required Equipment: Funny cigs, its Ithaca!
Trip Report: We had 4 serious hikers and 1 person who isn't very physically active. The minority one this time. Most of us have hiked this area or other spots in Ithaca. We were more or less showing that 1 person the sites. After doing the loop from the upper parking lot we drive down to the lower parking lot for a dip in the gorge. Amazing weather, great views, and good friends. The last pic of Ithaca Falls is from different area of town. You can park about 300 yards from the falls and then walk in. Not much hiking involved with this one but the Fall Creek House is right there (great townie bar).
Info on the park from New York State Park website:
Robert H. Treman State Park an area of wild beauty, with the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen as its scenic highlight. Winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park. Campers can choose from tent or RV sites or cabins. Enjoy nine miles of hiking trails, or swim in a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall. Swimming is allowed in lifeguarded area only.
