Trip Report: It was pretty cold and fairly dead being MLK weekend. I think the cold may have kept people off the slopes for extended times because the lodge was pretty busy. On the drive it was as low as -6. About two inches of fresh snow fell overnight and made for some good skiing. Several of the steeps off the upper quad were not open or had less than ideal coverage. Most of the open glades were still pretty skiable in the AM and not too rutted out. Lots of powder holding on in the glades. The upper parts of Peachy's Peril, Professor, and Jane Craig were in need of one more snow with the tops of the grass and small trees poking through surface but the bottoms of these trails held lots of powder and nice soft bumps. Tightline and Royal Coachman were on the hard side. I didnt' make beyond Tightline. I was worried the coverage would be too bare and didn't want to hike back towards Tightline. Another storm will hopefully make that side of the upper mountain more skiable.
The entire day was cold. It was a full face coverage day. The upper part of steeps were socked in and the visibility never lifted. No trail was ever really crowded. The Rangeley chair had maybe 15 minute wait max and I never was more than third in line on the Kennebago Quad.
