Date(s) Hiked: 12-28-06

Trails(s) Hiked: AT

Total Distance: 11.6

Difficulty: Horrific

Conditions: Bitter cold, wind chills well below 0

Special Required Equipment: Wind protection, Stabilicers

Trip Report:

This was a wild hike. I did not meet all my objectives as "The Horn" (another Maine 4000 footer) would have required another 90+ minutes of above tree line hell. This was a tough trek above the treeline let me tell you! no views either. I'll have to climb this bad boy again!

Better trip report and very white pictures here -- http://hoosactunnel.net/nonhoosac/ME/Saddleback061228

Oh agreed, was going to do the Bigelows Saturday but when I got to the base it was 11 degrees and windy and cloudy. :uzi: Had to abort which was unfortunate. No biggie, I am going to be up that way a lot this year.

Marc....Kudos to your effort!

Maine's mountains, with the lack of development around them, are very enticing to climb...particularly when the rest of NewEngland bathes in relative warmth, but with the rest of Maine's woodlands lying at low altitudes, the few mountains(even with their lesser altitudes in comparison to Mt. Washington).. really catch the wind..eh'!
