Trip Report:

Well this is my frist trip report..I'm still a newbie here.

This was my first real hike of the season and the day couldnt get any better.

Arrived at around noon time and wanted to start the hike by Piazza rock and up to the summit but I didnt have enough time and didnt think my knee would last the 12 mile RT. So I moved to the ski area to start.

Started around 12:30pm through all the contruction on the lodge and went up the access road to the Natural Lifts...and hiked up the double diamond trail...which was so steep I had almost wished I took an easier trail. The views about halfway up were spectacular though few puffs of clouds and blue sky for as far as I could see.

Continued up to the top of the trail and had to catch the trail to the summit by the lift and saw some gleaming ice lingering around from the winter and got some ok pictures of the remaining ice.. Took about an hour to reach the summit. It was a little windy at the summit...not enough for a jacket though...as the sun was out and keeping me warm. There was one family that was at the top picnicing and enjoying the day.

I continued to head to The Horn...seeing Sugarloaf in the distance. Trail was very dry except for a couple spot of mud where the rain had collected. I saw a pair of runners heading back to Saddleback summit. It took me about another hour to reach The Horn and it was still clear and sunny so I decided to relax on the top for some lunch and resting my legs.

I was in a hurry to get down as I was getting sore and it took me about 1 1/2 hours of hiking from The Horn to the bottom. Had to get home and do some homework...eck. I didnt see anyone else on the way down which was nice I like the peace and quiet. I was startled by a Spruce grouse though hiding just to the side of the trail. I sat for a few minutes and watched him, snapped a few pics and tried to get closer but he was nervous and hopped into the woods. Although I was only a few feet away from him I couldnt get another good shot.

The bottom came and I was happy to see it but it was an excellent day of hiking and it wasn't wet at all except for the couple muddy spots at the top. All I can say is that I love that area it's so beautiful.

I have some pictures for you guys.. here
Enjoy! :)
