starting to look ahead for this saturday and looks like a day trip

candidate list: Loon, Sunapee, Cannon, & Wildcat

no experience with Loon crowds on a late March Saturday. figure the snow will be corn/wet so a short wait in lines might not be bad but...I hate lines...anyone want to chime in on advice/experience?

Wildcat typically has the best Spring skiing in NH from my experience. Your mileage may vary depending on your preferences and what you are looking for though....

Doubt lines will be much of an issue even at Loon this late in the season, especially with the Backyard Syndrome in full effect. Most people will be putting boats in lakes and pulling out the clubs this weekend instead of skiing.

Loon will have the mtn Dew vertical challenge finals on Sat. Place will be busier than you can imagine. We qualified so we will be there, but if you are not racing.......

I think that Cannon will be least busy. As I was returning from Burke this past Subnday, it looked like they still had decent cover. There were even some moguls on the lower slopes (Avalanche or Pauline's etc.)

I'm looking for some input regarding Sunapee. I wouldn't my going there myself to smoke my quads on their bumps. I believe they still have them on couple of trails?

Loon always seems to be crowded. I usually avoid it, even on spring weekends. Season ticket holders still come up in droves over there.

the crowd thing at Loon makes me hesitate - haven't skied there in nearly 3 decades. I'd bet the cover at sunapee will be good. wildcat is my favorite but it's a bit longer and I was hoping to save it. i was going up to sugarbush or stowe but the overnight thing has been canceled.

If cover were the only issue then I would choose Loon. I don't think anyone is Nh does as good a job as loon does at making alot of snow. Look at last years trip reports about Loon late season. All said the same thing surprising how much snow they had.

Loon will have huge crowds on the Governor adams side cause of the Race. Parking will be an issue, Last year it was pretty packed by 7.30 ish. but most will be at the race.

Wildcat or Cannon, would be the best Values for Sat.

We'll be registering Sat am. Seeing the Globe trotters Friday. My son qualified at Waterville,Attitash and Wildcat. My daughter will be racing on a snowboard and planks. I'll get my run in also. I think my wife may have qualified at all three places maybe just two. We have a thread somewhere on the finals. Tree_skier and his family will be there.
I'm not hard to find at Loon.

I usually go to Watervillle on vertical challenge weekend, cause the lines are mellower. Pm Stomach doc he is the WV regular.

Vertical challenge many resorts host a day where they have races. Top 3 from each age group by divison and sex get invited to Loon for the finals.

The MDVC is a great thing! My husband and I are regulars at VT races and will be at Loon this weekend checking in on Friday. We have a bunch of friends that we have met through the years and we rarely miss finals. The Pepsi people have been wonderful to us. We have literally won thousands of $'s of stuff over the years. The fireworks on Saturday night are awesome! The Millhouse Inn will be the place to be and we will be there this weekend.
If you are not racing and you go to Loon be prepared to be greeted by over 3,000 racers and their familes. It's a huge event like the Killington Bear mountain mogul challenge or bigger. For participants it's great!

The fireworks are always great. Spectacular show. The Mill is good but lost some of the fun when they took out the cool lounge at the end and are not putting in a morgage company:roll: anyways i'll be there friday so ill be in a dew crew shirt maybe helping hand things out. if you think u see me (or my friends) fell free to say hello!

PS Im 14 so dont be suprised:wink:

We'll be at Loon Sat. for finals. Had a great two days at Bretton Woods last weekend...daughter was smokin' the NASTAR course both days and her and her friend couldn't get enough of the glades. Sat. will be our last day of season and she, plus the friend and her brother, have "Dewey Bears" from past years which automatically qualifies them for finals. Downside is having to register on site and fighting the crowd in lodge. But we're looking forward to the day as it's always a great time.

If you don't like crowds, stay the heck away from Loon this weekend.Cannons cover was getting pretty boney last Sunday.Lots of bare spots. They were trying to stay open till the 8th.Talking with the Mt manager last Saturday it sounded like this might be the last weekend.

I'm a loon guy. I leave as soon as I can after the challenge. I'm lucky I have a parking pass. If you are not a Loon by 7.30ish it will be parking at south mountain and a shuttle ride in.

Update

Just talked to a friend who skied Cannon today(Thurs) and said it was pretty good.Coverage had not deteriated much since Sunday.I'll be there on Friday and I'll be willing to bet it should be a pretty good day. This is Attitash's last weekend.
