I have a few days in southern VT later this week and I'm thinking of hitting up Magic for my first time. I've read how good a place it is after new snow falls, but what's the take if nothing new has fallen for a while? Forecast talks of possibly some light snow durinng the week, but no appreciable dump.

Great terrain and currently very good coverage. With no real warm up should still ski great this weekend.

The notion that Magic is only good the day of or day after a dump is old hat. Once a good base is laid down (which I would consider its current base sufficient), skiing any day at Magic that is a non-powder day is little different than any other expert oriented mountain in Vermont... with the exception that there will be no crowds, no lift lines, and generally better snow conditions since it takes that much longer to get played out. Now is a really good time to hit up Magic.

If I could get a day out this week, it would definitely be on my very short list!

+3.

GREAT day there yesterday, such light traffic the snow is soft everywhere and abundant in the trees. Also when the green/blue side is groomed out like it was yesterday I think the "experts only" line on Magic is not fair, there's plenty of uncrowded cruising on that side of the hill which was decently groomed and lightly trafficked. I haven't looked at a forecast going forward but unless there's heavy base-eating rain or fog, the cover was really nice. Definitely some rocks and roots to bang up your bases, but definitely worth it. GET THERE>
