Resort or Ski Area: Shawnee Peak Maine

Conditions: FG/LG to Hardpack/Ice

Trip Report: Brrr! Single digits and 30+mpg wind gusts meant a pretty cold day at Shawnee. The wind kept only the lower quad open limiting terrain to about a third of the mountain. Conditions were only OK. It was pretty hard underneath some lose granular. But hey - it was skiing and we had fun anyway. They were blowing snow on lower part of The Main - so there was a bit of soft stuff to be found. It was so cold that the man made was very light and fluffy. Shawnee needs a good dump to get things covered again.

Couple of pics.

I was there as well yesterday. It was certainly COLD out there. We skied till about 11.30 and called it a day. The lower part of the main with the fresh snowmaking was awesome! Nice quality snowmaking snow. It should be pretty good this weekend as they had guns going all over the place. I will probably be there both days.

Hey Terry - if you get a chance please post what today (Saturday) was like. We are thinking of heading up tomorrow and might even try the east lodge. ;-)

They made a lot of snow all over the mt but the grooming was terrible. I don't know what happened but it was death cookies and hardpack everywhere. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow. My wife and I will be there tomorrow. I will be in a spyder black, blue and gray jacket, blue giro helmet, rosignol z9 skis, and white beard. Introduce yourself if you see me. We will be based out of the east lodge.

OK - Thanks for the report. We will give it a go and hopefully the groomers can chop it up a bit better tonight. Boy #1 has a middle school race at Shawnee on Tuesday night so he might as well get used to the conditions. I will say Hi if we see you.
