I'll be skiing with my shoulder like this for the season. I'm still hoping to work on the bumps. I'm a bit concerned about poling though...we'll see how it feels.

Dude, just the thought makes me cringe!

We'll have to set up a line of low angle bumps for you to work in...I think working on the steep bump lines is going to hurt you. The steeper it gets the more the pole touches become "blocking" pole touches.

And for God's sake make sure your poles aren't too long!

Yep...it goes up to type 6 actually. A type 4 is extremely rare where the clavicle twists behind the ac joint towards the back.

a six is where the clavicle makes it's way down. A five is a more severe type three.
I've been to 5 surgeons and 4 of them agree that it's a type 5. The one who will do my surgery uses either existing or cadaver ligaments to repair the damage. 3 others were honest and wanted to refer me to other shoulder specialists. The first wanted to put a screw in at the joint and wire down the ligaments....WWDMCD?

I consider myself lucky with just a 3rd degree...
Hnag in there bud...

I couldn't find a doctor that I had confidence it, to make a long story short. I found him the last week of the summer. now it's back to work. Did you get my PM? I sent a double one to you and Brian. I'm not sure if I did it right.

Beano, I'm sure that you enjoy skiing as much as anyone on this board and I am sure you would miss it if you were not able to ski, but I'd recommend having the surgery ASAP. This really isn't an injury to play around with. Skiing with it could lead to a worse injury and in the long run cause you to miss even more skiing than you would if you have it done now. I had shoulder surgery, though not the same. If you have the right surgeon it should heal as good as new. I was fortunate enough to have my surgery at the end of June. I was in the pool 2 weeks later, mostly treading water and doing resistance exercises. By October my shoulder was strong and I was doing well.

Good Luck to you!

Thanks Teach...but I'm just a thread hijacker. I just put the pictures of my shoulder up there because I had recently taken them. It's not skiing that is keeping me from having this surgery, it's work. I need to stay put for at least a week after the surgery. Simply put, it's something a teacher can't do in September. The best break for me to do it is either in April for Easter, or beginning of the Summer.

I shattered my shoulder July 05, and was skiing Nov '05. Limited range of motion, but I can pole plant just fine. No surgery, just a lot of painful PT for a few months. My guess is that the surgery will not damage it the way I did and your recovery may be quicker.
