Got maybe 5-6" of wet snow here yesterday, compacted by brief interludes of very light rain & sleet. So I took the boys out to nearby Bradford for some night runs. Apparently they groomed close to everything during the day, which I suppose was prudent from a snow preservation standpoint but I'll groan anyway ...
They must've groomed Wasp (race slope to looker's far right) first as there was a good 3" or so of fresh (if dense) on top -- and because that chair wasn't running, almost nobody bothered to schlep over to ski it. So I hit that up four or five times. On one run on skier's far left I experienced a first -- a virgin canvas stretching before me from top to bottom. Yeah, only 248' vert so not the longest untracked run in skiing history, but still.
Also enjoyed making tracks in what little glades they have (low angle so it helps that the snow was not deep) and made plenty of fun turns in a few other spots that typically the groomers miss, especially a top-to-bottom swath on the edge of the trees at skier's far right in the terrain park. Some genuine shin shots there, woo hoo ... I could claim to have gotten a face shot at one point but I'll admit it was a couple splatters of spray from a boarder in front of me.
There were maybe 50 people on the mountain at peak so we got a lot of runs in in a few hours, enough so my legs feel it but not enough to leave them sore. And I was just about the only one going for whatever freshies were available. (Yeah at least as of last night my boys now seem more interested in the terrain park and what little "air" they get than skiing pow. Fine, be that way -- more stashes for me.)
Been slim pickings for powder since the late Feb dump so it was good to get a little bit of taste anyway.
