Not too bad today condition wise. No wind, felt relatively warm. It was really busy again, but that was only noticed in the Lodge. Having all the terrain open really spread everyone out. Took a few nice warm-up runs with the wife and kid on Cruiser, Lower Applejack and Main St. We were going to be heading up to Sugarbush/MRV next week and we wanted to practice a few drills.
Took a solo run down Lucifer's Leap while the girls were in the lodge finishing lunch. No real signs of slick spots anywhere, just nice soft snow, especially on skiiers right. Trouble was, as I rounded the first turn, after the "leap" part, it was in shadow. With the light flattened-out, I couldn't tell the crest of a whale, from the trough beneath it. I took unexpected air and ended-up doing a perfect impression of the "agony of defeat" guy on the old ABC Wide World of Sports.
After a ride on the meatwagon, and 4 hours in the local hospital, I have a lateral tibial plateau fracture. No weight on my right leg for at least 6-12 weeks.

Gotta hand it to the Butternut Ski Patrol, they were AWESOME! Thanks Darren, Mike and the rest of the crew!

Paul is right -- conditions were pretty good. Some scratchy ice spots in the middles of Upper Applejack and Downspout, but by and large good skiing. Sorry to hear about his misfortune, though.

I saw three people taken away today in ambulances, hope they're all OK.

Also, for those who head home to Conn. via Route 183, a friendly policeman told me he spends every weekend evening parked alongside it, just after closing time and just a few clicks after it branches off from Route 23. This came after he handed me the ticket. My fault, felt like I still had ski boots on, and I was surprised at his admission.
