Trip Report:
Sunday: Since I was going to be in the Berkshires, I might as well take advantage of some free time to ski! Pulling in to the entrance revealed the many others that decided to ski on New Year’s Day. Sunday we started skiing at round 1:15pm. It was cloudy and about 35 degrees. The Top Flight and the Highline Quad were the only two main mountain lifts running. Surprisingly the waits were less than 5 minutes on either one. As it got later in the day, even around 2:30pm, the lines were shorter. I bet early in the day the conditions were great with the few inches of fresh snow received.

With the high ski traffic most was all skied off to the sides to reveal the hard pack surface below in the center to the trails. The connector that goes to Cruiser from Applejack was closed. The most traffic seemed to be on the Main St., Hob Nob, Nut Hatch trails. Applejack and Lucifer’s leap were not bottlenecked like the trails from the right as you exited the TF.

I think the best snow conditions was on the Twist / WestWay Terrain park. Perhaps the snow boarders compacted it all down, I do not know as I did not feel & hear the scraping of my skis at all.

Monday: Since staying about 10 minutes away, we headed over to Butternut and got into the TF lift line at 10:45am and waited 20 minutes for the chair. The fence was up and people were lining up on the left side of the lift. The line was going up the hill toward Cruiser. If you skied down from Main Street, you were suppose to XC uphill a bit to get in line. Some were not and I am surprised there were not any fights other than the one obscenity shouting match.

The trails were packed! Both quads had a serious waiting line. Many people were saying they have done 3 runs in 90 minutes. I kind of found that hard to believe, but in fact I did just about that. At 12 noon, we decided to leave. It might not of been so bad if the Cruiser quad and Overbrook triple were online. Today the Cruiser trail was open and they were grooming Dipsy, so I suspect it was to be open within hours. The snow on Cruiser was nice and soft. I think it might of been opened shortly before I arrived because the of the quality of the snow.

I also heard several people commenting that they only paid $15 for a ticket. The $15 ticket for the last day of a holiday week vacation might of been the reason why it was so packed today.
