Going on the assumption that intermediate skiers are usually novices in the glades...

Crotched and Pats Peak have some glades that are good for starting out on...low-pitch and nicely spaced out. The novice glades at Pats Peak may have enough cover between now and this weekend when they close, but when I tried one of them out on Sunday there was a crunchy layer on top which made them more difficult to manage.

I didn't go into them, but IIRC Loon has a glade area that is also more novice-friendly. I also saw a gladed area to skiers left of the Valley Run at Waterville that would be fine for intermediates to try out.

I've hiked through those woods at waterville and they are certainly spaced for a intermediate/novice. cannon also has a short glade towards the bottom -on the right side of the mtn that I skied a couple of weeks ago. gunstock has some great glades that my son skied three years ago at 7/8 years old - but I'd worry about cover at this point

Thanks. this is for my kids. We ran glades at Stowe and Bolton last weekend, (they would rather spend all day in the woods/glades) but that was much deeper (2-3 feet) pow (so we went steeper) than I expect to find in ski93-land.
If there is pow remaining of course they can ski steeper stuff. If it's all tracked out, and hard pack, I'll need a lower angle.

We plan to strike on Thursday (we don't believe in weather forecasts...) I am thinking further north (Bretton Woods) might still have decent pow. BW still is reporting PP.

Bretton's a good bet. Nice calm Mountain with spaced glades. Should still look pretty good up there, too.

Crotcheds glades just plain aren't IMHO. It's a hill with some trees on it. :-D Pat's are nice, but your right, bit crunchy, at least where Sunday.

Jay Peak has all kinds of glades from beginner to expert. There are two green glades (they actually run a groomer through them). There is a blue glade or two (also run a groomer through). These glades are perfect for people to explore glades for the first time. you can leave the groomed portion if you like and find lots of lines; You have the option to drop right back onto the groomed section. Once you are comfortable, you can move on to the black glades.

All of their glades have their own rating system from 1 to 5 stars (green=1, blue=2, black=3+)

I consider myself an advanced skier, but relatively new to ungroomed. I ski just about all the marked trails at all the mountains (though I dont ski the expert trails particularly well), but I have not done trees until this year. This is my 3rd season. I was very comfortable at Jay on the 3 star black glades (Buckaroo Bonzai, Showoff, Bonaventure, Buck Woods, and Beaver Pond). I also enjoyed many of the 4 star glades (North Glade, Canyon Land, Expo Glade).

I found awesome desciptions at easterntreeskier.com.

Oh, and wear a helmet. :smash: And go slow. :spread: :-D

The trees on Final Frontier are quite spaced out in spots, and there is a section that they run a groomer through, so I'll give you that...there are some areas just off of the double lift that are a bit closer together, though.

Were you at Pats on Sunday? If so, how did you like the crowds?

I might have tried the glades more but I was trying demo skis so I was more awkward than usual...

True, but it's always so crowded...

The mountain is no more crowded than anywhere else, really... easier glades are going to be in plain sight - going to be lots of traffic.

Cover couldn't get much better than it was last weekend... after the rain tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, who knows though...probably won't be pretty : (

It was fun, was there part of Sunday, most of Sat. Sat was a blast, EVERYTHING was a bump run. :) Sunday things had gotten a bit more crusty, tho.

Birch Run at Sugarbush. Very novice friendly. Haven't been there this year, though, so check the condition.

EDIT : Oops, sorry, it's not on 93.

Where did you find the "star" rating for Jay's glades?

Good question! I was trying to find them since someone on some website mentioned them. I looked all over and nothing. They should really post them on their website. In any case, *after* I spent all day on the trails trying to figure out which ones looked the least scary, I opened up a little book that i picked up at the start of the day. It is a little book on the glades with descriptions and ratings. Look for them in the lodge by all the trail maps if you end up at Jay.

If I find something online, I will post it.
