They’re being fully vague about Vonn’s knee injury. Is that normal? I’ve gotta assume her leg’s been scanned.
My hunch is if she tore something, it would of been announced. If its just a strain, then its more day to day....

From the video I saw on NBC Nightly news tonight of her crash, my hunch is whatever "bad" happened wasn't during the crash itself, but how her left leg/ski ended up in the B-Net as her lower leg looked like it was rotated out compared to her upper leg at a 30-45 degree angle... And if one has never been caught up in B-Net, its not easy to get entangled from.. Its "job" is to prevent you from sliding into whatever hazards are behind it, not make it easy to get out of necessarily

Vonn today revealed she completely ruptured her left ACL but based on training and skiing on it yesterday, is going to give the DH a go. Will wear a knee brace but she said he knew feels strong and stable. Wishing he luck, I know she's been down this road several times prior.

I guess we dont have another woman capable of competing for a medal?

If we do & Vonn has no chance to compete I think Team USA should remove her, but if we have no competitive backup I guess let he do as she wants. Although thinking about his now, the answer could be both, Vonn with an ACL rupture might actually still be USA's best chance.

Vonn has the best results of the Women on the team this season, and hence it's her call about should she step into the starting gate or not.

Other women on the speed team, Breezy Johnson, Jacque Wiles, A.J Hurt and Keely Cashman have all (if I recall correctly) had top 10 finishes in speed events this season. The US Womens team. bot in the speed as well as the tech events has a bunch of talent. Speed wise though, Lindsey has had the best seaso, with multiple wins and podiums. So even if she's not quite 100%, she's still very good and the course in Cortina is one where historically she's had many wins and podiums

This seems to me to be Lindsey saying, I've got the points to do this, its my last shot at it, and I'm not going to sit on the sidelines, regardless of whether it is the right move as a team (IMO a fully healthy Breezy is a better bet than a gimped 41 year old Vonn). It would take quite some hutzpah from the US Ski Team to force the matter (which they have done before like last year in the combined and Vonn was incredibly vocal about it).

My guess is that if Lindsey is able to get through the minimum of 1 mandatory training run she'll have to take ahead of the downhill scheduled for this coming Sunday, that she'll pull out of the team downhill and Super G. I also suspect that had Lindsey not had multiple victories and podiums in speed events this season, that she'd probably not compete. The US Women's team, both in speed and tech have plenty of ladies who could medal in the Olympics if they ski well!

Breezy Johnson's definitely going to be a downhill starter for Team USA, it's probably someone else who would miss out on a huge opportunity if Vonn cant really compete but chooses to use the Olympics as a farewell lap. I really hope she doesnt do that, and given her personality I really dont think she will. Hopefully anyway.

I expect she believes she can be competitive or she wouldn't be doing it. How aligned with reality her belief is, we'll find out on the hill.

And RCS for the men won the 1st training run today! Granted most of the athletes typically ski the 1st training run at 80/85%, but he's been skiing very well this year and been on the podium a couple of times

They all cant start unless they changed the rules this year, one of each gender would be an alternate.
