I think the best airport in NE for skiing is Manchester, NH. Easy in, easy out when compared to Logan and closer to all the resorts.

They don't have any international flights there do they? They'd prob have to fly to NY first. I'd just be easier to go direct to Boston and get a rental.

If your going to the River fly into portland. The River will have many options on and off the mountain. ie swim, fireworks. This time of year I usually ski a few hours and then back to watch football. I'll be there after the Turkey day high school footbal game. If you have to do it blind the River is one of the safer bets.... that would be my choice anyway.

another vote for Sunday River...they also have a consumer demo event that weekend so all of the ski companies will be there with 0809 product to test for $10.

i think you wanna go to a place that's has great reliable intermediate skiing. so that means okemo, sunday river & mt snow, all of whom are likely to blow as much early snow as possible on some nice top-to-bottom trails. killington could have the most terrain open t-giving but as an intermediate mtn it sux. it's trail count as opposed to actual real skiable trails. the great northern mess counts as 5 trails and the last thing i'd recommend for someone flying over is to do laps on all 570 vert ft of rime or ski the patchwork of intersecting trail madness on snowden no matter how much powdr has detoxed the place.

Last Thanksgiving, Killington had major routes open off the Superstar Quad, East Fall in the Canyon, plenty of trails down Snowdon, and a couple off the peak. We're talking Thanksgiving, not opening day.

My husband's birthday is also the weekend of Thanksgiving. Last year for his birthday present we went to Sunday River for the long weekend and had an absolutely fantastic time. So fantastic, in fact, we plan on heading up there this Thanksgiving as well.

I was there (SR) for Thanksgiving weekend last year as well, and plan on doing it again this year. I had a great time, and can't wait to do it again.

If the Warren Miller tickets are the same as last year, there's a good chance I'll be at Sunday River the Sunday following Thanksgiving - tickets were blacked out Friday and Saturday last year.

Greetings all from the UK.:-D

The wife and I have decided to visit Northeast USA (from the UK) for my birthday (27th Nov - I know Thanksgiving Day). We are hoping to get a few days of skiing in. We are intermediate level skiiers at best and have just graduated fron University thus are not financially lavish. We are asking what to guys would recommend with regards to what would be open, where it would be good to ski and be averagely priced. Thanks in advance.

We had turkey day there last year and it was a blast. A decent amount of lounges were open. Fun into the evening for sure. Jerry G, Johnskskismore, terry, Ga2ski thaller1 and a cast of thousands will be around. We had a meet and greet last year over this weekend at Sr. I think we had only 6 or 7 show up. It was a really cold day for early season.

I forgot about that. Knowing it's a Southwest hub I guess I assumed they did but after your post I remembered that Southwest didn't fly across the pond. Too bad, it's a awesome airport.

Even tho they are further from the northern Vermont ski hills the Manchester airport as soon as it they expanded and brought Southwest in, it has grabbed a big chunk of the Burlington market. The Burlington airport has been working hard on getting back some of that business.

don't know if your set on coming to new england, but i would recommend going to quebec city, a little early for le massif usually but mont ste anne should be better than just about all the VT areas, besides, if the skiing blows you have one the best cities to hang around in

If it were me I'd put off flying over here for a couple of months, if possible. May as well wait until you have a better chance of most stuff being open.

He's coming for his birthday and not specifically for skiing..I imagine if he was coming to the US specifically for skiing..he'd skip the northeast entirely and hit the Rockies..

Yes, but obviously skiing is one of the activities that he wants to participate in. Pretty much anything else he wants to do in NE in Nov he can do in Jan or Feb. He can even still celebrate his birthday then too. When I travel out West to ski for my birthday someday I'll be waiting for better conditions.
