SLopeside condos Vermont - Jay or Sugarbush

I have been reading these forums for a few years, finally joined.

I am planning a trip the first week of Feb to upstate Vermont, and would like to find an inexpensive ski in/out condo. There are only 2 of us in our party, so something small is okay, as long as it has some kitchen facilities and is truly ski in/out.

When I ski myself, I have no problem with driving to the local roadside motel and eating at the local bar after a day on the slopes, but I want something a little more convenient since my girlfriend is with me this trip. That being said, I do not want to spend $572 per night for a 1 bedroom slopeside condo that is on the Sugarbush Website!

Right now I am looking at Jay and Sugarbush. Have tickets for around $40/day already taken care of, so just need to find an inexpensive condo. Looking at the Feb 1-3, so it is midweek, non holiday. Anyone have any idea where I could find a fair deal? If anyone can come up with something they know about at Jay or Sugarbush (or even any other mountain for that matter, as long as it has around 2000' of vertical, our local mountain is 400' of vertical and we want something that is a bit bigger for a ski trip.)

At the Bush, to be honest, the words inexpensive and slopeside do not go together. Slopeside units are the most expensive. For two people Center Village or Village Gate units are nice, a short walk to the slopes and are the most economical for lodging close to the slopes. Like most resorts these days there is a free continuous shuttle to get around the resort. There is also a restaurant with bar spitting distance from both these condos.

Sugarbush within walking distance - could help!

A short walk to the lifts is okay by me. Sometimes a short walk means 30 mins, but if it truly is a short walk, I will check it out. The best I found at Jay so far is $812 for two of us for 2 nights, which is absolutely off of the planet for a stay midweek in February. I will check out the Sugarbush condos that are within walking distance.

Thanks

Paul

Jay's slopeside units are pretty pricey unless you go for their early or late season deals. There are some units at Sugarbush above the Gatehouse lodge and Claybrook Lodge building, (also very pricey) across the slope from the Valley house lodge, tath are older, are nice and are true ski in ans ski out. Not sure if the mountain books them of it you have to look elsewhere for info on those condos, but I would look at Sugarbush over Jay.

Not sure what Crank is talking about as there are no lodging units above Gatehouse Lodge. Call 1-800-53-SUGAR during the day and ask about the two I mentioned. I am very familiar with the lodging that the resort books and the units across from Valley House is Snowcreek, all two bedroom units and much more expensive than either Center Village or Village Gate. Each about a 10 min walk at the most to the Village Double lift. Should be much cheaper than $800 for two nights. I would guess around $300 for two nights.

There is a private company Sugarbush Village Condos 802-583-3000 that rent Center Village and Village Gate as well. Since you already have lift tiks the main diference is that booking the units thru the resort you get free access to the Sugarbush Health and Racquat Club with SVC it's not included. Also, the resort's front desk is 24hr while SBV's front desk closes at 5

Just talked to the front desk and they are $306 for two nights. The first week in Feb the resort doesn't have much availabilty in those two complexes because they don't have many units in there that they rent so try SBV also as they manage more units in both buildings, might be cheaper than $306 for two nights.

Frustrating seeing prices from Jay and Sugarbush

Well, after contacting both Jay and Sugarbush directly, checking craigslist, VRBO, etc., there really is no way to find a slopeside condo that is reasonably priced at either hill. Oh well, guess we will stick to Canada, probably Owl's head. Only 1800' vert, but at about a third of the cost of Vermont hills. In this case, slopeside is a deal breaker. We do go on lots of trips where we stay away from the slopes, but this time we really want a relaxing time and do not want to have to run around at the beginning and end of the day. Oh well, just have to keep my eyes open over the next few weeks to see if I can track something down, otherwise Owl's head gets our cash. Not as good a ski hill, but still pretty good.

Hmm, $300 for 2 nights isn't bad. I realize that is an estimate, but I will give them a call. Thanks!

Thanks SKi Resort Observer!!!!

SVC price is great! $140 per night for a 1 bedroom condo. Well, that just knocked a significant chunk off of our trip. No need to look any further! If you go to SVC website under specials they have really good prices>

What about that line of gray condos off to the left if you are looking at Claybrook from the Parking lot. They are condos. I have stayed in them twice over the years. They are enough above Gatehouse that you can easily ski down to it. They are directly across a run from the valley House and are right next to the slope.

That's Snowcreek....if your in the first couple of units I guess that's ski on/ski off but we sell them as short walk to slope. I thought you meant literally above GateHouse  There used to be a lift right next to Snowcreek there going up Spring Fling, it was sold to an amusement park in Jersey circa 1999.

If you really want to stay on the cheap and close to Sugarbush you can try the Slidebrook Lodge on German Flats road. Not ski on/ski off by any stretch of the imagination but you could pick up a bus or take a healthy walk. If you plan ahead and your comfortable with woods you can make your last run down (in?) slidebrook and end up fairly close to it making it a ski off.

Slidebrook Lodge is a mile+ away from typical exit from Slidebrook onto German Flats Road and would never be considered a "ski off" location.

Wow...I didn't realize it was that far. Only seems about a minute or so when I'm doing 70 down German Flats Road... ;)

Ok...so not a ski off, but the bus passes by and they have a great bar. Just trying to give him more options.
