I have never spent a night at any condo or hotel at Smuggs and I rarely even go into the lodge. I just drive 40 minutes from my house to the upper lot and jump on the lift. I tend to eat my lunch I bring from home at the shelter on the long trail by Sterling pond.

That sounds positively horrible.

How did you open your Chateau Rothschild?

Yeah Smuggs sucks. Old slow lifts, old smelly condo's, old dilapitated base lodges.

It ranks right up there with MRG.

Don't go there.

Dont even get me started on that place.

That place's lifts are so old they actually have a chair with ONE seat......ONE SEAT I tell you!

Agreed. All those northern mountains are terrible. Tell your friends! Spread the word! Go to Stratton or Okemo instead! ;) ;)

Trying to wake ppl up here right now so we can get out to the mountain.

I'm heading up tomorrow to Waterbury. Skiing at either Sugarbush/Bolton Wednesday & Friday and will be at Smuggs Thursday. Will be my first time at Smuggs and the only negative I see are the lifts are antiquated unlike the surrounding resorts, Smuggs for some insane reason has never updated its lift system. They got 8-10 inches in the recent storm and have opened up a lot of terrain so conditions should be sweet. The choice of Smuggs was against MRG and Stowe but I've skiied MRG early season and its 100% ungroomed so my thought is that if you want a break you'll get a better mix of groomed and powpow at Smuggs. As to Stowe lift tickets were $84 plus a $5 card you have to buy so early season for $89 who is Stowe kidding with that. Will report on all three days..

Check out the trip report smuggs 12.18.2013 and mine on Bolton. Driving in heavy fog on i89. Temps up to 49 now down to 42 in white river junction..

Have fun storm will either dump rain that will freeze and protect base or like yesterday at Sugarbush just soften pack.

You will 100% have solid conditions or see me next time for a heady topper at Blackback pub/mad taco in Waterbury.

Love smuggs, have a time share that I go too at least every other year (Long drive from VA). But it's a people place, not a McResort :). When it's -20F the slow lifts can be character building as well. Not everyone's cup of tea. I find it is like riding a motorcycle, if I have to try and explains its allure, you will never understand ;).
