went from 63 yesterday to 24 today....is it wind hold, NCP damage?? lack of crowds....what gives???

MRG didn't even open today due to the rain/freeze. Probably similar event hit Smuggs along with every other ski area in NNE today. Unless NNE got the backside snow event... natural snow trails without grooming are likely coming off line at many areas.

Looking at their "photo of the day", it doesn't look good. You can see a lot of bare spots in the woods which would indicate some rain. Sorry, hopefully they'll get pounded before you arrive.

didnt realize the rain/freeze hit that hard up there....not surprising the reports made it seem all was good up there....

As RivercOil said, it's most likely because of the thaw/rain/freeze event. A lot of the terrain at Smuggs is natural snow dependent and not easily groomed so the big drop in available terrain is most likely for this reason. I'm certain lot's of ropes will drop if it either warms up or more snow falls.

thats what i'm figuring, after those dumpings last week, hard to think theres alot of bare spots
