This occurred in the Super Condor area on the Alley run, which is the outlet for several runs on the slope below Super Condor. It has been a while since I've skied here, but these are basically different lines through scrub that fall into the Alley area/drainage:

There is no observation/fatality report in the UAC database yet, and the Park Record is reporting that this is "not" avalanche related, but I am having a hard time seeing that (unless it was a treewell incident or perhaps he was injured, lost consciousness, and fell into deep snow and suffocated). If it comes out that this was an in-bound avalanche, no matter what ski patrol does, these can and do happen. :(

There are a few of you out here skiing and riding, either as visitors or as folks living out here. Be careful the next few days as things are very active. There was an avalanche last night in LCC that crossed SR-210 and hit two cars. This resulted in SR-210's closure and an Interlodge.

RIP to the victim and thoughts and prayers to the family.

Treewell? Wondering how deep the pack is there, and new accum. Tree holes are lethal hazards people tend to forget about. Also, official report stated the man had injuries. Thinking tree collision head injury, and/or treehole trapped w subsequent exposure or asphyxiation leading to fatal outcome.

Hmmm
Dropping into that area...not recommended unless...you know
Yeah but he was on Alley which is flat as a pancake with a creek bed. Have no info but my guess would be a cardiac/medical event then asphyxiation in the snow or he somehow ended up in a tree well or the creek bed.

Hadnt thought of this before, but I guess if you find yourself in an awful situation like that it's gotta' be even more dangerous on a snowboard. With skis you at least might have a fighting change to release yourself.

Yeah good luck getting yourself out of a tree well upside down on a board…at least skis you can pop out

In a really steep area of Everglade at Jay Peak I wound up like an undershelf wine glass with my skis perfectly stuck between two trees. My feet were up and my head was down.

I was able to basically do an upside down crunch & stab one of my binding releases with a pole. Once that leg was free I could wiggle the other out. If I was on a snowboard I dunno how I could have gotten out.
