For a change of pace and to give my pregnant wife a new sport so she won't be bored while i ski, we went snowshoeing at Sunday River (and to give the dog some exercise).
We pulled up the parking lot near the Summit Hotel and put on our snowshoes at 13:00. We headed up one of the snowshoe trails on a easy/moderate grade (i missed its name). After about 15 minutes of hiking, the trail mets the snowmobile trail and follows it for about another 20 minutes or so. We followed the yellow diamond trail markers to the right off the snowmo trail towards the top of Moonstruck ski trail.
Upon reaching the edge of the Moonstruck and other snowshoe trail descends to the right again and parallels the ski trail back towards the car. We returned at the car around 14:15 after taking a few side trails.
Anyway there are a bunch of trails in this area some of which need some maintenance (trees down) but we a lot of fun.
There are bunch of informative signs along the trails, which would be fun for kids (or even the adults).
