Skin up Tele down

I plan to skin up the trails and free heel down. I'll be in great shape by spring! (Lets hope there's enough natural snow...)

I think that I will ski at Belleayre because there is no chance that it is going to close.

Christmas - New Year is usually all Belleayre with the race camp program for my daughter. With no race camp happening, probably do another mountain if Bellayre really runs only one lift. Sugarbush? How crazy is that place at that time? Maybe split it with a few days at Bell, to visit my friends who have already rented the house for the winter.

The rest of the winter is going to be wherever the J4 races are, I guess, since the leaks say there isn't going to be any racing at Bellayre. BMRA is supposed to continue to attempt to train at Bell, however - which complicates the matter.

Don't think it is going to be worth buying Belleayre season tickets this winter. I just decided to skip a trip to Vail I usually do in mid December to offset the increased the amount my local skiing is going to cost me this winter.

What the hell did I miss??

Can someone please fill me in on what is going on? All of a sudden I go to belleayre's website and see an announcement saying they will be open 7 days a week this year. My first response is "umm, and why is this news? When aren't they open 7 days a week?"

Then I skim over the article only to see that they are waiting till Nov 28 to open as opposed to Nov 10 like usual. They also stated they will be closing in MARCH, which they NEVER do. The best thing about belleayre is their late season skiing, Belleayre in April is always phenomonal. Hell they are usually still blowing snow in April. But continuing to read said article revealed they will be cutting back on snowmaking as well, not to mention shutting down lifts and raising ticket prices.

Belleayre has always been my favorite ski resort, because unlike other places they care about the skier. They would always try to open as earlier as possible and close as late as possible (blowing snow in april). They'd get the better terrain open early, have $15 fridays monthly, free ticket giveaways, and just made you feel at home all around as a skier.

So can someone fill me in as to why belleayre is making all these horrific changes? Why are they hanging us out to dry now?

NYS State Budget cuts. For more information, I'd suggest reading the xxx page thread on it...

Rob, what cave have you been living in??? Wow Belleayre is going to run on a much smaller budger and open a week or two later and close much earlier...the late season snowmaking has been great for the hardcores but not good for the budget...Not so many giveaways on tap..

Dude - you're all late and stuff...

see this definitive thread and its outside article links:

http://forums.alpinezone.com/35451-belleayre-nys-budget-cuts.html

God damn where have I been, apparantly I've missed a lot in the past few months. This is horrible. The thing I always loved about belleayre was that it was state owned, so it didn't matter how much money is cost them make snow, power lifts, etc. Why change all that now? Ugh, well I've got some reading to do. Lets hope for the best for this season. I can't believe they make only operate on the superchief, and with limited snowmaking.
