I'm picking up my daughter in The Big Apple this evening to head north to ski tomorrow (just one day) . What is our best bet for decent conditions? Should we make the run to Mt. Snow, or just head to Hunter? Anybody got a reading/prediction on this? She is an excellent skier, so we need a mountain with some challenge.

Pick a place with good snowmaking....Nothing in South VT or the skills are going to be great...All the snow is up north. Mt snow did pick up some snow last week...Either way there is going to be some ice.

So VT or Catskills this thursday

Vermot will always win in the argument VT. vs Catskills
I was at Mount Snow on Saturday this week...Snow should still be good on the north side although they decrease snowmaking ops signifigantly at this time of the year so icy spots will prevail. The further north you go the better challange will exist, as Mount Snow is a relatively easy mountain as compard to Stowe, Sugarbush, and Jay---My best advise, for a day trip...go to Okemo...their grooming and snowmaking never rest until April, and the mountain has better lift service and provides more challanges than Mt. Snow especially on the new Jackson Gore side...enjoy

Better placement than mine . Thankx

He meant that this thread was in two places--one in the Skiing Report Page and one here. There is no need for duplicate threads.

I was at Hunter on Tuesday. Beautiful day there. Hunter had there usual excellent groomed trails with very few people. A number of mogul trails as well that softened up with the sun. Lower K27 softened up and was skiable. I don't think Mt Snow or Okemo have anything as challenging as Lower K27. Clare's on west side was groomed flat. Weather is supose to be wintery mix in both Hunter and Mt Snow. Skiing in the rain is actually very good snow conditions. Driving another 3 hours in wintery mix to VT is not all that much fun. Mt Snow is not a challenge. I would go to Hunter and stay at Hunter Inn with there $69.95 special including lift ticket and buffet breakfast.

The essential truth in this thread. Good call.

But, by all means, drive an extra 2 hours to Mt. Snow because in this kind of discussion, VT beats the Catskills hands down.

Considering drive time and being midweek, nothing wrong with Hunter

Pokemo more challanges then Snow???????????? I suppose if your challanges is to find some challanging terrain or to find a parking spot within walking distance of the lodge then maybe there is a point.

Where to ski?

Thanks everyone for your responses. Turns out we decided to put it off until Sunday evening. We decided that we didn't want to make the drive and end up skiing in the "80%" chance of rain they have predicted.
