The food's like any other crappy fast-food joint. There niche is that it's like an old A&W drive in where you park and babes on roller skates serve you. It's more the social scene, specially in college towns! Use to be one of the places to go when I was at Oklahoma University.

I drive by it almost daily. Never in my life have I seen anything like it in terms of sheer popularity. Kind of pathetic really. People waiting upwards of 2 hours for the luxury of not even having to get up from their car to have their fat asses served unhealthy, crap quality, fast food.

The wait is longer to get a meal at Sonic on Route 1 than it is to get a table at Number 9 Park in Boston on a Saturday night.

There is one in Kingston NY that I go to every so often. For food they are ok, I would choose Wendys over them any day. For desert though they are the best place like them that I have been to.

And the roller skates thing is crap. Most of the people at the one by mean dont even skate, they walk around. If a person wants a tip from me they better be skating!

They opened up one on Route 46 in Totawa NJ. They had to have a corral system like you do waiting for a chairlift. I have been waiting for it to calm down before trying but it hasn't yet.

GSS, What's your feedback on quality and value?

"Since the restaurant opened on Route 1 in late August, thousands of patrons have arrived to try Sonic’s burgers, hot dogs, and milk shakes, jamming traffic late into the night with waits of up to four hours at times."

I've never eaten at Sonic although I am only 15 miles from one..they are building one 4 miles away so I can only hold out so long..4 hour waits are crazy although the local Outback used to have 90 minute waits and now there's hardly ever a wait

on route 1 in Mass, they've essentially had to create an 'exit' for it on a section of the road with no exits. The main entrance is blocked off by police and you have to travel up a few blocks, then down a road behind a hotel, to get in the queue.

incredible. You know, we've had the lame ass Sonic commercials here in New England for almost three years, especially during Celtics games. They come on, I say to my fiance, Why do we have these commercials? Well apparently they're pretty darn affective with three years of build up.

You mean the (frakking annoying) ads they've been running for the last how many years up here might actually do something for them?

It's going to be like Krispy Kreme. Very popular at the start and then folks realize it's not really that special and they stop going.

most successful restaurant opening I have seen in my 15 years of working in the profession and paying attention, if not my lifetime.

Those frakking annoying commercials apparently work as not only has the Sonic been a HUGE HUGE hit, I switched to Progressive Insurance last month

Probably similar to when Krispy Kreme 1st opened in CT. Literally a 1/4 mile + line for the drive through! :puke:

They opened a Sonic a few months ago on Rt. 17 in Jersey and I heard it caused a traffic nightmare. I drove past it twice so far coming home from Jets pre-season games and the right lane of Rt. 17 was crawling for a mile before the Sonic entrance. There was a cop directing traffic in the entrance.

I had Sonic once when I was at flight school in Virginia about 9 years ago but I don't remember anything about it which means it's okay, not remarkable at all IMHO.

I think they are suppose to be putting one in Wallingford, CT too

I heard that rumor too. I'll check it out 6 months after they open. Gotta let the hoopla die down a bit.

People not going wasn't really KK's problem- KK management was. The one that opened north of Boston was still doing well when they shut down, even though the location was terrible.

Sonic is doing a much better job of managing growth, and seem to be doing it with internal cash rather than piles of unserviceable debt.

The town I grew up in in Arkansas had a Sonic as really the only chain restaurant around- we didn't even get a MacDonald's until 1987 or so. Food's not great (though the tater tots were always tasty), but the slushes are great.
