Well then, try the Benchwarmer Porter from Cooperstown Brewing or Anchor Porter.
If you can find it, Utenos Alus porter (Lithuania) is pretty sweet, and Okocim (Poland) Porter is sweet, but thin- the Palone (has a phoenix or somesuch on the bottle) from Okocim is much better, but not very sweet.

Head over to beeradvocate.com, and search for styles of "milk stout" or "sweet stout" and buy the best rated style you can find. That site doesn't often steer me too wrong.

BTW, White Ale is pretty far off your mark. That's a spiced wheat beer. That one won't yield much bitterness, but you won't find any much sweet in it either. Wheat varieties are like the dry white wines of beer.

Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter has a smokey and somewhat sweet finish. Local to Maine, I like Shipyards, Bluefin Stout

Michelob has a new line of "quality" beers out. I wonder how they taste.

Honey Lager, Porter, Marzen, and a Hefeweizen. I'm a little frightened, but would be willing to give them a try. The amber Bock, while not a good beer, isn't nearly so terrible as might be expected.
