Lots of wind hold in the morning but got the quad by late morning then the
gondola by lunchtime. This morning was brutally cold and the winds were
stronger than I was anticipating but they died down when I thought they
would. Last night was a total bust on my part for the upslope snowfall as
it just never seemed to develop on radar. It all looked good to me and the
Greens disappeared yesterday afternoon but my forecast for 4-8" was really a
very windblown inch on Mansfield. Luckily the wind took that 1" and
refreshed the woods in a very nice way...it would be amazing if every inch
filled stuff in like this. I was skiing with some family friends...Dan, who
is practically my little brother, and his dad. We skied a ton and my legs
are toast. Its not the easiest snow to turn in (wind-blown powder) at times
but its soft and my skis didn't make noise. We first hit Bypass when the
quad opened and laid down the traverse out to the chutes. Down the first
chute and as usual, the 1" of new was more like 5 or 6" in there from wind
loading off the Kitchen Wall. Those were some great turns. Then we did the
second chute and had first tracks through that as well. Everyone went home
when the chairs weren't spinning at 9am so powder lasted a long time today.
Its hard to call 1" a powder day but we just stayed off anything windblown,
and in the morning stayed in the woods off Bypass and in Goatdive (N/NW/NE
winds all blast the trees to the skiers right of the Dive by taking all the
snow on the wide trail and putting it in there). After lunch we worked
Angel Food and multiple shots all around Chin Clip. Made first tracks down
the streambed off Chin Clip which had a few deeper areas of blow-in.
Tomorrow should be even better without the morning wind hold.
Not many pictures from today but here are a few of Dan skiing in the woods.

And shots of the gondola since I love looking up the line to the Kitchen Wall-Chin ridgeline with clear skies in the background.
