STOWE, Vermont — After nine extremely successful days of snowmaking that started on Jan. 3, the mountain operations crew has stockpiled mounds of snow on at least 15 trails around the mountain. When the lifts close on Friday afternoon a full-scale resurfacing operation will take place around the clock through Saturday. Grooming will be the key, as harvested snow will be used to groom and re-groom trails two to three times each.

Weather forecasts for the upcoming holiday weekend include snow each day Saturday through Monday with temperatures in the twenties.

Next week snowmaking will continue on Tyro (Terrain Park), North Slope (Halfpipe), Perry Merrill, Gondolier, and Hayride.

Has anyone followed the news story about the propogandists working for Bush? Prett frightening stuff, really. It seems that the Gov. has been producing short "News Style" videos the are nothing more then biased editorials on current issues the Rep. party has immediate interest in. News Broadcasts have been running these either in their entirety, or in part, in place of doing their own leg work to establish the legitamacy of the views expressed by the current administration in these briefs. This is scarry to me. You can no longer turn to standard forms of news that were once trusted to report fact. It makes it more and more difficult to establish a base line of fact surrounding issues that face us as citizens of this country.

In that vein, I see this as a step in that direction for this form. Instead of releying on member testimony and real observation, the "news" section of this form becomes an echo chamber for AIG (in this case) in an attempt to salvage a horrific X mas by cashing in on MLK weekend bigger then ussual. Facts about the Mtn. this year are we had a bad early season, rain before christmas did major damage. There is little to no off piste riding as of yesterday, and with the base consolidation last night, it's groomers until we get a foot plus of snow. Most people are aware that we are in for a dusting of snow tonight, and maybe another dusting on Sunday. The groomers have been doing a good job with what they have to work with, but there in is a whole different issue. The new snow making system has been semi functional all year. The computer system has issues and has been working sometimes...also, they began drawing directly from a stream this season, instead of the pond alone. They have sucked up alot of leaf litter and this has also hampered efforts to get the white stuff down. Snow makers are frustrated and many of them are losing work hours. So trails that are ussually rocking this time of year are just ghetting opened. Hayride wasn't open in time for the first race this season and there is no park or pipe..like not even close.

The new quad on spruce is nice, big spruce won't open until we get significant snow. There is a good base over there and alot will open right up if we get a dump, but until then, that's alot to ask for a day pass. What is it now 60-70 bucks?
