Trip Report:

Just a quick report to say that Stratton was in excellent shape yesterday. Packed powder (the real, soft, squeaky kind, not the firm, slick kind reported by most resorts) just about everywhere on the groomers. A little scraped on the highest traffic trails, but that was very much the exception. Spend almost all our time is bumps and trees, though, which were fantastic. The main glades were mostly tracked out, but the cover was great (what a difference an month makes) and the snow was very soft. Bear Down was lots of fun, though the bumps were a bit smaller and less defined than usual. Nothing a little skier traffic won't solve.

Looks like the forecast is calling for some icing overnight, which could disrupt some great conditions. Hopefully, it will trend a little cooler and keep S VT mostly snow.

I was there on Thursday after driving up solo in whiteout conditions on 7 Wednesday night. It was my first time to the mountain and I met up with some friends who were staying for a few days. They got a few inches overnight and the conditions were excellent. There were a lot of nice soft smallish bumps so I did a lot of practicing since I don't do the bumps much, I skied under the Ursa and American Express chairs and they were virtually intouched for some reason. One of the runs under the chairs was roped off. Also skied many runs directly inder the gondola and it had nice soft bumps in the afternoon.

Although I had a great time, I think after a day or two the place would be a bit boring. It is just so FLAT. I did not venture into the glades mainly because I wasn't familiar with them and I'm sure the would have been good. All in all a great day though,
