Date(s) Skied: Friday march 23rd 8:45-2:30
Resort or Ski Area: Stratton
Conditions: Cold with hard pack and ice in the am. Corn in the afternoon..Bluebird day.
Trip Report: Left Long Island at 4pm on Thursday and headed up to Jiminy to get some night skiing in before my cousion headed to Brattleboro for the night. (My cousin had a court date on friday in brattleboro to fight a speeding ticket).
As we arrived at Jiminy it started to poor rain so we decided to bag Jiminy and head to brattleboro for the night.
Friday morning we woke to clear skies and a bit cold. Got to stratton to use our free snow day ticket at 8:00 and found out that the upper mt was closed due to ice. Luckly it was a blue bird day and they were grooming so it would not be long until the surface started to soften. We decided to ski what was open and found mostly intermedite runs open.
Around 10:30 everything seemed to soften up and they were dropping ropes left and right. I saw that standared had some nice looking bumps set up on skiers left so I decided to try them. Wow they were horrible pieces of mush...unskiable. Grizzly Bear was nice with a bit of ice at the headwall. Run of the day was bear down with nice soft hero bumps with no ice at all great run did this a bunch of times. Upper downeaster was another very nice run with nice hero bumps just off the headwall.
The coverage at stratton was great with very little bare spots and they did a great job getting the MT back inshape after a cold rain and then freezing temps although... being a blue bird day helped out the most. Sorry no pics camera is in the shop
