Snow should be great. Not sure about weather. It’s foggy now and might be for a good bit tomorrow. Need to check forecast. If it was going to be sunny and 40 I’d say go for it.

Nowhere now, but everywhere

It just didn’t look like the fog was going to lift or warm up all that much, called it at 10 and got in a 16 mile emtb ride at Nassahegan to make up for another missed weekend. Tomorrow meeting up with our Sugarbush posse at the big K for some fun in the sun, so all is not lost.

Beautiful fall like hike today. Drifter - or what I could see of bottom portion - had edges cleared/pushed back. Summit has 20+, 10” diameter pipe waiting for deployment. Gondola wind break getting new strapping - hope it helps.

But with nothing at the base as had long-been planned/speculated. Certainly doesn't do anything to dispel the belief that Alterra is more focused on bigger investments out West and pretty much limited to maintenance capital or replacement of lifts on their last legs in the East.

Tin, bit confused - “nothing at the base”?

Ah yeah got it. But I think the added cost of a lift and trail going over Stratton Mountain Road, not to mention the permitting approvals, is (sorry) a bridge too far. It’s already costing almost $9mm as it is. I think that money could be better used elsewhere.

And I do think people in the condos and Lot 1 will use this new lift rather than going to main base for a high speed lift. The old Tamarack lift was strong motivation to go to main base.

Stumbled upon the updated master plan which was submitted to ACT 250 back in January. Lot's of focus on the Sun Bowl area including a competition arena with surface lift, lodge expansion, additional parking, expanded snowmaking coverage and even a hotel. No lift crossing from the lot 1 area however.

Going to need to make a bunch of snow over there with the exposure for the SMS athletes, but they likely will. As much as a bunch of AZ'ers like to rag on Stratton, Alterra has chosen to run them as a bit of a flagship resort and is investing in the resort as such

I take back the part regarding the lot 1 lift to base area, it is in there albeit 5-10 years out. Exact location was not given.

Seems like SMS and Stratton want a GMVS-Sugarbush like set up. It would be nice to get Franks back as a ski trail. Maybe revert to old name too….

If they actually make a race area in the Sun Bowl, it will improve the whole on mountain experience for everybody.

Racers wont have to lug their bags and race skis up Amex, racer friends and families will be able to see the races without needing a lift ride, the midmountain lodge will be more usable for the general public, Franks/North America will be back in rotation to spread the hordes on the upper mountain, there wont be racers going Mach schnell down Grizzly Access to get to the Ursa6 to get back up the mountain and......they will have to start blowing snow on the Super Trail when the season starts instead of what little snowmaking they are doing now on the Super Trail.

That said, I will believe it when I see it.

If they really want to spread the hordes - putting a lift back on Kidderbrook is the answer.

North American was one of the best there prior to the lift removal and race transformation.
Speaking of the old trail map. When they put in the gondola they took out a trail with that bulge which one sees about half way down. Was there a reason for that or could a tree island be planted to make it more like the original trails again. Doesn’t seem like a trail that wide is needed there

Making a ton of snow over there isn't a problem, remember all the snow they made for the US Open back in the day.
