Open the tailgate there are two screws that hold it in on the side. Haven't done it myself, but that looks like the obvious way.

don't have a subi but found very helpful videos on youtube when i needed to remove bumpers and door panels on my toyota.

Owners manuals never have that sort of info. They want you go pay the dealer $100 to do it for you.... Shop manual might.
Not sure I'd agree on that one...I've seen instructions on replacing tail lights in a number of Owner's manuals. Didn't help me with my recent brake light problem since the LED bulb wasn't user-serviceable but I've replaced plenty of tail lights in the past.
