Resort or Ski Area: Sugarbush, VT

Conditions: Not great... partly sunny, 30s, some wind

Trip Report:

Got to Ellen around 9:15 and went looking for all these bumps everyones talking about. Hit Hammerhead which was solid at that point with a few bumps here and there, but nothing much. Very thin cover too. Headed up to Exterminator next which was also solid. Again, some bumps there but no real good lines or anything like that.

Off the top, took a cruiser route to the bottom via Rim Run, Elbow, and Cruiser. Most of it was already windblown. Decided Ellen just wasn't good today and headed for the Slidebrook.

First run over there was Sunrise... entire thing was full of "bumps" spaced 5-10 feet apart... kind of like how Killington sounded in a recent TR. Headed to Castlerock from there and hit Rumble. First time ever for me on a non-powder day and it was interesting. Very technical trying not to hit rocks. Tons of fun though and surprisingly the best bumps I found all day were in the middle section of it.

Went up top and tried Paradise which had some good parts with good bumps and loose snow, but others were awful... down to rocks, stumps, and tons of ice on the lower part. Not hardpack either, there were a few sections of legit ice.

After a quick lunch, hit some woods off Bravo including Steins Woods, Eden, and Lews Line... threw in a Steins Run in there too. Marked woods really aren't a strong suit there. Usually it isn't a problem because the trails are usually real good, but today I was just looking for something that was actually good... never found it. Some trails were alright, but man do they need snow (and NOT tomorrows rain.)

Hit Middle Earth which was groomed overnight and was skied off by the time I hit it. A few random bumps around too. Hit Sleeper after that which was pretty good. Also hit Birch Run which was good in spots and skied off in others.

Getting whiped after 3 days of skiing, decided to head back to Ellen and take one more top-to-bottom cruise. Probably my last day out till at least Wednesday... depends on how bad this rainstorm is.

Cool TR I was over at MRG this weekend, woods were sweet, trails were getting pretty thin.

Bumps: Lower FIS. It was great this afternoon. Other than that, I agree. They are skied out. But Cliffs looked nice.....

I did Castlerock Run and it was pretty thin. We need snow. When there is not much snow and a lot of people it gets rough.

Best thing to do, though tough, is to get there real early. I have been able to get there for first chair the last few weekends. The first hour, with fresh grooming and nobody, is amazing. It goes fast though.

Agree with the assessment of Sunrise. Also agree with some of the woods you mentioned. Feel free to PM me for advice. There are some really nice gems...
