Date(s) Skied: Sugar Bush 3-2-12.

Conditions: powder and packed powder

Trip Report: Managed to get some of the first tracks on Castle rock as soon as the lift started spinning. Having 2 weeks away from skiing took a moment to find the groove again. I lapped another couple of times before heading back to the Heavens Gate lift. Took some runs down Paradise and the Paradise woods. There was still some fresh to be had in the woods, but even the areas that were tracked weren't slick and were very skiable. Played around off Jester. Seems most folks don't ski these woods. They're really tight, but at times we were up to our knees in the soft stuff. Overall the day was excellent and one of the best since last year.

Smugglers Notch 3-3-12

Conditions: powder and packed powder

Trip Report: The forecast was calling for rain and sleet. In the morning the sky was dark and threatening to rain. Around 11:30am we saw about 30 minutes of light rain that drove the crowd inside for lunch and drinks. We persisted and were rewarded with empty slopes and carveable woods. After the rain went away, the clouds disappeared and a beautiful blue sunny sky came out for the rest of the afternoon! Everything was in harmony. I forgot how good the glades are at Smuggs. They're not quite as tight as Sugarbush and not as wide as Stratton, but they really allow you to pick your way down, around, and through small stashes of powder with some room for error.
I've got to remember to get more groupon vouchers for this mountain next year.
