Resort or Ski Area: Sugarbush
Conditions: slushy goodness
Trip Report:
Took my first trip to Northern Vermont, and I came away with two resounding conclusions. First, I love spring skiing in all its slushy glory. Second, Sugarbush is one helluva mountain to enjoy it.
We had a group of eight people of varying abilities, and we all managed to have a great time. As it was my first time at the mountain, we skied all over, including making the beautiful--but quite far--trek over to Mt Ellen and back.
I was worried all week about the weather, but we ended up with an amazing spring day. Blue skies most of the day, and temps in the mid-40s. Rapidly melting snow may be a tragedy, but its sure a lot of fun to ski.
Gorgeous weather, at least until the late afternoon:
What Idaho kid doesn't love some mashed potatoes?
Run of the day was Paradise, which was a great mix of small slushy bumps and soft snow:
Castlerock was a bit of a mess with the "Castlerock Extreme" competition, so we avoided it most of the day:
But we were able to scope things out and sneak in a run down Middle Earth, which seemed to have the best coverage:
Exterminator took the honors on the Mt Ellen side. This is exactly the type of meandering, undulating run I imagined when I envisioned skiing in New England:
Amazing spring day on a really interesting mountain. Loved the terrain variety, the amount of ungroomed terrain, and the overall vibe. Definitely heading back as soon as I can make it back up there.
