Resort Skied: Sugarbush – Lincoln Peak

Date skied: 1/21-1/22

Conditions: Packed Powder, Loose & Frozen Granular, machine made styro snow

I woke up on Saturday to single digit temps and light snow falling. The snow report said there was 4” of snow on Friday and a fresh inch overnight, Steins was groomed and that the Castlerock chair was spinning so I decide to hit Lincoln Peak. Steins was groomed flat and a fast run. A groomed Steins is dramatically different run than when it has fresh snow and moguls. After Steins I went down all natural snow Domino to the Castlerock chair. Castlerock had been open for hiking and the lift first opened on Friday. There was a good crowd in line mid Saturday morning. My first trip was Castlerock run from top to bottom. There was great coverage, a firm base and modest moguls.

Here’s the obligatory picture from the top:

My second lap was Middle Earth:

Third lap was Castlerock to Cotillion that had the best snow of the day.

I skied all over including Birch Run and Sunrise off the North Lynx chair and had a challenging run on icy moguls on Moonshine. Late in the day the sun came out so I finished up on a hero run on the nicely groomed Snowball to Spring Fling:

On Sunday I woke up to bright sunshine and the promise of temps climbing toward 20 degrees. I skied a bunch of groomers including an early run on Steins and a mid morning trip on the Heavens gate chair. I skied Rip Cord which was flat and fast and then a nice run on Lower Paradise. I finished up mid day in the sunshine on the North Lynx chair. Sugarbush blew snow on Birch Run and Sunrise and had left everything ungroomed. Lots of fun on the fresh manmade that I call “styro snow” because of the texture and consistency.

Here’s a view of the moguls at the top of Sunrise:
