Resort or Ski Area: Sugarloaf

Conditions: 4-6 inches FRESH on top of Hardpack / Ice

Trip Report: A couple of weeks ago my friend and I decided to take a day off from work and ski on December 17th. Nice job by us to pick a Powder day!

It was challenging and fun. 4-6 inches of fresh on top of a hard pack to rock solid. The loaf froze solid after Monday's thaw, but thankfully the snow made it a most enjoyable day.

After a longer than usual drive up due to the weather, we clicked in around 9am with our $29 Maine day tickets attached. There was snow everywhere. We had big grins on our face and let our an occasional hoot or holler after each chest and face shot. You just had to stay on your toes for the hard pack | ice patches where the snow had blown off or been skied off. But there was enough snow to recover quickly after hitting a patch. My "new to me" Dynastar Legends skis ate this stuff up. Loved them.

The conditions were very good on the Superquad side of the mountain. Tote, Kings, Hayburner, Scoot, Gauge were primo and I thought Skidder and Comp Hill were especially good. We got 3rd and 4th tracks on Double Bitter, but that was early in the day on only 2 inches fresh so it was a bit treacherous but still fun.

We ventured up spillway chair and traversed to the King Pine area. We hit Widowmaker, Ramdown and Boomauguer... scoring fresh tracks especially on Boomauger. But this side of the hill was very solid under the powder making it challenging in the blown off spots.

We ended the day with a run down the first part of Boomauger then cut over to lower Bubblecuffer & Lower Gondi line. Sweet trials in this area. Narrow and windy.

Took various pics. All are about the same... lots of snow covering the hard stuff. Overall - a fantastic day. :spread:

Scoot was a lot of fun

Ramdown Glade off Tote - Had some success scoring first trees of the year. Another 6 inches and they are mint.

Nice TR. Can't wait to get to the Loaf. Which Legends are you skiing? I demoed the 8000s this season and am definitely buying a pair. I've had the 4800's for a few years and they were quite good in powder for a 74 waist. I ski K2 PEs now but the 8000s seem to edge alot better. The PEs are a good powder ski but we've had alot of scratch this season and I get nervous on them.

I am skiing the 8000's. I am finding they are good in multiple conditions but I especially appreciated them today. I could switch between floating and edging hard pack pretty consistently. I bought a used demo pair from last season... glad I did!
