Sorry this TR is a bit late. The pics are going to be even later. (since I am not at home)

Got out and on the mountain for first chair again yesterday. I was nervous about conditions as I didn't see any guns running and hadn't heard stellar reports as of late.

Coming off the superquad down Tote for my warm - up, I was greeted by some of the softest corduroy I had skied all season. The snow was sweet. I raced to the bottom.

Timberline and King Pine were on Wind Hold (and they wouldn't open all day) so it was back to the top of the superquad. This time, a run down Kings Landing where they had been doing some snow making the week prior. Surfaces were great here too.

Hayburner was, by far and away, the best skiing of the day. Period. Tons of snow all over the place and it was as if there had been a 3 or 4 inch gain the night before. So nice.

By 10:30, there was quite a large crowd growing. I decided to hit Spillway which turned out to be equally as busy. Spillway East (the long side) gives you access to a few more things. I tried Cinder Hoe and that was just a stupid, stupid idea. Bullet proof snow that was nearly un-carvable. D+ skiing at best. In fairness, they don't make snow on it so, it might have been a bad choice.

I decided to give Narrow Gauge a shot next. The snow was not as "forgiving" here as it was on Sluice and Spillway. Pretty hard and the double black headwall was icy. Mid-way, I hit some ice, couldn't get on edge, and went flying. Super painful and it took a solid 25 seconds for me to stop.

Overall, one of the best days of the season despite the lack of snow. Their snowmaking team has put in tons of man hours and it shows. As always, the east is in need of some serious snowfall. There was a lot of exposed rock on Natural Snow trails. Trail count remains high. I wish that King Pine had opened as i am sure Widowmaker and Boomauger were skiing nicely.

Pictures coming tonight.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this mid-week storm heads north!!!

Cool - thanks for the report. Seems like SLoaf and Sback have their man-made groomer trails in top shape.

I saw someone take a spill on Tight Line headwall at Saddleback. They didn't stop for a while and neither did their skis. I helped him get things back together. Hope you are not too sore from your spill!

Looking forward to seeing the pics...

where its snowing
Was at Sunday River on Saturday for Telefest(report coming), but headed up to the Loaf for the first time this year on Superbowl Sunday... Got an early start as well, expecting similar conditions to Sunday River, I was pleasantly surprised by the first run of the day down Hayburner... Fantastic groomed carving delight... Hit Kings Landing for second run, more of the same carveable excellence.... and then onto the Spillway to the summit... Dropped down Gondi Line, edges of the trail held a lot of snow, really? When did it snow last? Conditions were much much better than expected, and short of the few powder days I've had the best groomer day of the year....

Ventured over to King Pine, even with wind-hold, I knew Haulback would be worth it... Groomed corduroy perfection. Yum. Giant carves, nobody around... in for a minute to get some water, it was cold -- warm up for a second...

Back at it, hit some more favorites.. Spillway was excellent, Boomauger and Wedge great.... 11:30, time for a Bag Burger.

Skidder was pretty ski'd off by the time I made it there and qualifies as the iciest of the day for me -- Few more runs to check out, few more repeats.... Ended the day with a Widowmaker + Flume! I forgot how refreshing it is to ride/ski alongside people that really know how to ski... Nobody was really in my way all day, crowds on trails were very light.

I love the Loaf, looking forward to my next trip back already... but first... Colorado!

I must confess, I have never had a Bag Burger. I feel ashamed. I hear it is an institution and something not to be missed.

Glad to hear Widowmaker and Flume were in good shape. I have found over the past month or so that Flume is super hit - or - miss. Some days, the snow is soft but, on others, it is a sheet of ice and SCARY. The people who don't know how to ski it slip their way down and mess it up pretty bad. (and this tends to be quite a few as they miss the turn on skiers left to get to ramsdown and the easy way back to the quad)

I haven't done Wedge yet. Mostly cause every time I try to find it, I end up in the wrong place. Please to describe.

Let me know how it goes. The winds down here are howling this morning. Supposed to be a pretty nasty day. I still haven't uploaded the pics from this past weekend.

What's the base like in the woods and up on the Snowfields? How much snow would be needed to open up the top?

I realize the AZ summit is over a month away and lots can and will change between now and then. Really hoping to hit backside snowfields for the first time.

Sorry but I didn't make it up, ended up staying at Sunday River instead. I am dying to hit the Loaf though.
