Sorry this TR is a bit late. The pics are going to be even later. (since I am not at home)
Got out and on the mountain for first chair again yesterday. I was nervous about conditions as I didn't see any guns running and hadn't heard stellar reports as of late.
Coming off the superquad down Tote for my warm - up, I was greeted by some of the softest corduroy I had skied all season. The snow was sweet. I raced to the bottom.
Timberline and King Pine were on Wind Hold (and they wouldn't open all day) so it was back to the top of the superquad. This time, a run down Kings Landing where they had been doing some snow making the week prior. Surfaces were great here too.
Hayburner was, by far and away, the best skiing of the day. Period. Tons of snow all over the place and it was as if there had been a 3 or 4 inch gain the night before. So nice.
By 10:30, there was quite a large crowd growing. I decided to hit Spillway which turned out to be equally as busy. Spillway East (the long side) gives you access to a few more things. I tried Cinder Hoe and that was just a stupid, stupid idea. Bullet proof snow that was nearly un-carvable. D+ skiing at best. In fairness, they don't make snow on it so, it might have been a bad choice.
I decided to give Narrow Gauge a shot next. The snow was not as "forgiving" here as it was on Sluice and Spillway. Pretty hard and the double black headwall was icy. Mid-way, I hit some ice, couldn't get on edge, and went flying. Super painful and it took a solid 25 seconds for me to stop.
Overall, one of the best days of the season despite the lack of snow. Their snowmaking team has put in tons of man hours and it shows. As always, the east is in need of some serious snowfall. There was a lot of exposed rock on Natural Snow trails. Trail count remains high. I wish that King Pine had opened as i am sure Widowmaker and Boomauger were skiing nicely.
Pictures coming tonight.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this mid-week storm heads north!!!
