It's funny, Sugarloaf still hasn't really entered their corn-cycle yet. Wednesday brought snow and a bit of ncp which firmed everything up nicely between Wednesday PM and This morning. The grooming, however, was out of sight. Almost everything was buffed out.
The good news, there was new snow. Not tons, but enough so it touched up a lot of stuff. A few guys I rode with said there were spots in the woods that were really good. I call shenangians. It was practically bulletproof in the glades between Skidder and Hayburner as well as the ones between Hayburner and Kings.
They groomed a ton throughout the night. Just about everything over on King Pine got the treatment. Groomers hit Gondi all morning. (The last one left the area around 9:30) Comp Hill was open from the start but it was a mix loose snow with ice. Took a good 4 hours to soften up a bit.
Gondi proper was skied off fast. (at least the headwall) The first 2 turns were sphincter-clenching to say the least. Sheer ice. The snow was so nice, every idiot was going down regardless of whether or not they could carve so newbies would side slip the steep then make turns about 40' down. Awful.
They buffed out Skidder as well, which I have never seen. I lapped it a few times. Not really my thing. Just steep, wide, and straight.
Overall, another spectacular day. Temps were comfortable, not too warm but not cold. Timberline had a delayed opening (due to icing on the chairs and towers) but, when they did open it was gorgeous up top. Zero wind and a full 360 panorama. Gorgeous. A clear view of Kathadin and Mt. Washington.
Trails of the day: King's Landing, Widowmaker (esp. Flume...it was skiing just awesome), Narrow Gauge, and Boomauger.
Apparently Meathead Films will be doing a shoot there this week. They made a MASSIVE jump for them throughout the day. A bunch of locals were getting photos done.
