Hi folks,
Several of you have inquired about the status of the Spillway East lift since our last post, and we wanted to provide you all with an update.
Tests, inspections, and repairs to the lift have been ongoing throughout the past four weeks. This work has been done by Sugarloaf’s lift maintenance staff in cooperation with the State of Maine Board of Elevator and Tramway Safety. The goal of these tests and inspections is to thoroughly examine the entire lift prior to its reopening.
Crews are working on the lift on a daily basis, as weather permits. The replacement of components that were damaged during the deropement has been completed, and crews are now in the process of examining and testing the rest of the lift. After all work is completed a full load test of the lift will be performed. This load test will be the same type of procedure utilized when testing a newly installed lift for the first time.
Work on the lift requires cooperation from Mother Nature, and crews have been slowed by two snowstorms and extreme cold throughout the past week. Right now we anticipate that the load test will be performed at some point in the next two weeks. Until we know the outcome of the load test we cannot provide a specific date for the lift to reopen.
We would like to thank you all once again for your patience throughout this process. We know that many of you are eager to see the lift reopen, and we are working hard to get it open as soon as we can.
As we said in our last update, we are committed to the safety of our guests and we will only re-open Spillway East after our lift maintenance staff, independent lift experts, and members of the Tramway Safety Board all agree that the lift can provide the reliable uphill transportation you expect.
We will provide additional information in the coming weeks regarding the lift and when you can expect it to reopen.
