Sugarloaf to become largest resort in the east? What about Killington?

http://news.alpinezone.com/81997/

The terrain expansion to Burnt Mountain was the centerpiece of today's announcement, and will create up to 270 acres of new terrain for the upcoming season, and 655 new acres when the entire project is complete. This will double Sugarloaf's current skiable acreage and make it the largest ski area east of the Rocky Mountains.

Diller and Steve Kircher, president of Boyne East, unveiled a plan to open Burnt Mountain to skiers and snowboarders starting this winter. When the three-phase plan is complete in three to six years, the addition will have doubled the skiable acreage at Sugarloaf from 651 acres to 1,306 acres.

“I said before, the possibility of becoming the largest ski area east of the Rockies [which Sugarloaf will become when the project is completed] is a huge moment in time for this ski area and for Maine,’’ Kircher said. “It’s the bragging rights of everything you want at a ski area and a destination. I know the stories of people talking about going to Burnt Mountain, going to Burnt Mountain. We’re finally going to Burnt Mountain and it’s starting [with tree-cutting efforts] … on Monday.’’

Interesting.....where does this leave Killington? 2nd Place?

Will this put pressure on them to build the interconnect and reopen sunrise? Will we get maintained hike-to access on parkers gore east?

Hum...

Does it really matter? Although when I saw the Sugarloaf press release I did think "hmm wonder if this will light a fire under Killington to expand with the interconnect. Although the new owners of K have showed little interest in the superlatives.

Of course it matters. The eastern skiing world revolves around Killington.

We're not talking about sex. Size really doesn't matter.

Eastern Skiing hasn't revolved around Killington since the 80s.

Is Sugarloaf still reporting their acerage as "boundry to boundry" instead of just defined skiable runs??

Is it still 1995?

And really who cares about the marketing bs, they are getting a shitload of really cool terrain and we all should be happy and go ski it.

They have always shown both on there website, and in their snow reports they have always used skiable acres.

1400 boundry to boundry and 650 skiable run. Now of course it's something like 1650 and 900 including the first phase.
