Conditions: Soft, wet snow turning firm
T. Report:
Started at half day (12:00). Just before I got there they must have got a squall of various precipitation that made for what felt like spring snow. Temps about 30- 32* , wind.
The summit chairs (Express and Sunbowl Quads) on wind hold. I was told that they had some major problem with icing.
The only lifts running were the North Peak and the far side one that feeds the terrain park.
I stayed mainly on the North Peak, lapping it. Yes, rather limited trail selection but what was open skied rather well.
It was good to sink the edges into some natural sonow. They reported 7 inches and those were nicely deposited and pressed onto the man made top providing a very edgable surface.
The grabiness of the snow was dealt with a bit a quicky wax job. After that, it was just a nice workout.
The temperature was dropping rather fast through the afternoon. At about 3 PM you could feel the change the surface: faster, harder.
There was a fair number of people there but I never had to wait longer that a minute or two. Finding enough of an open trail to push some speed was also no problem
The setting sun gave a nice show of colors on the clounds that were racing on the western wind.
Overall, as my first time out this year, this was a very nice session.
