might be heading up there with the family feb 23/24 weekend (my wife has family near Sunapee and they are always begging us to come up) Never been, give me the low-down...will be putting the 5yr old in ski school for part of the day and possibly day care for half days for the 2.5 yr old (unless the relatives will keep her for a few hours!!)

Looks like a decent mtn, glades etc....any discounts avail??

thanks

It's, overall, a fun mountain. Nothing spectacular, but worthwhile. Stay off the front side- it gets ridiculously crowded and isn't worth the effort. Spend most of your time on teh Sunbowl quad and you'll be happy. (Skyway Ledges to Skyway to Lower Wingding is my favorite run there- great cruising, run, and Skyway is usually empty)

The Goose triple (Lift D) is good, too- Lynx is fast and wide, Upper Flying Goose usually has nice bumps on it, and unless it's iced up, Goose Bumps can be fun.

Glades are hit or miss, usually miss. They're rarely open, often skied off, and don't hold snow very well. Summit Glades is probably the best there, but should be approached from Upper Blast Off, since the "headwall" there tends to thin the herds a bit. Ridge Glades can be good, but you have to fight through miles of sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooow greens to get back to teh lift, adn then you're stuck on the quad.

Use the Spruce Lodge, not the main one. It's much less crowded (a relative statement, at best), and I think the ski school is there, anyway.

Yeah, member card comes in the mail in a few weeks. I think you can print out some temporary one in the mean time to use on your trip.

Have fun!

My take on Sunapee is that it offers lots of intermediate cruising terrain. They do a good job with snowmaking and grooming. The Muellers really do a terrific job with infrastructure. I think to some extent it's becoming a victim of its success. I've come to view it more and more like a large Wachusett. Last few times we've been their on weekends the lodges have been packed. As noted, the front side trails tend to get crowded as most folks want to ski off the high speed quad and ignore the Sunbowl and North Peak areas. Probably not a lot to interest real experts but Lynx is a nice wide upper intermediate cruiser and goose bumps, which has been groomed the last few times we've been there, is a bit steeper. Flying Goose and Liftline in the Sunbowl usually have bumps. The South Peak area is excellent for beginners and novice skiers. I think I'd really enjoy Sunapee if I could go there on weekdays. I find the weekend crowds to be pretty annoying.

how rough were they? like flash frozen? was heavily considering a trip sunday just to try out flying goose.

Flash frozen is right.. Flying goose was tracked a little from before it froze too.. yuck

I didn't get a pic of Flying Goose close up but I did on Lift Line. They almost look good on camera, but this stuff is ice. In places I saw snowmobile tracks that weren't even breaking the crust :-(

Still doable. This season, the line on that trail (lift line) has been more consistent and hasn't been trashed. By leaving it alone and having man made or mother nature sprinkle the luv, the lines have been intact.
