Trip Report: After they picked up a few inches yesterday combined with snowmaking temps I was thinking it was going to be pretty good. They must have caught some rain last night because a number of trails were in worse shape than a week ago. There was snowmaking on Ecstacy, Southpaw, the top of Right stuff, Lazy River, Risky Business, and you could tell they were blowing over at Jordon Bowl
Usually Escapade is a trail they take vey good care of. Today it was bumpy hardpack and it tossed me around like never before. Good runs included the Airglow and Northern Lights, both choppy but skiable. Also Upper Punch to Monday Morning was decent. Sunday Punch was similar to Escapade. The Right Stuff had been blown on the night before and was pretty good, but they roped it off halfway through the day; can't imagine why. The top of American Express had a fair amount of manmade but the lower half was dicey, very thin with rock hard bumps. Lazy River and Risky Business were nice to ski if you can deal with snowguns.
Which brings me to Cascades. When I've gone this year (9x), there's been race training nearly every time. That's a great trail and I want to ski it more. As a passholder, I'm getting fed up. I know nobody cares, I'm just bitching.
We skied from about 9:30 to 2:30. At lunch my buddy noticed we have the same size boots so we swapped skis (his are Vokyl 5 stars, mine Dynastar 4800s). I'm skiing with no poles because my wrist is broken; that, combined with tough conditions and his slightly longer unfamiliar skis, made me feel wildly out of control at times. We switched back after 3-4 runs. I miss my poles.
Weather ranged from 5 minute snow squalls to bright sunshine. This went on all day.
