Got a slow start due to it being dreary and damp this morning. But still got to the hill just after 10a so probably after Bob and company were already at the bar
and just as mid-station lines started to build.
Unfortunately, Lower Punch got blown out again in many places. Saner skiers were taking off their skis and walking about 100 yards back to the lift (some less adventerous folks were down hiking as many as 300 yards). But I am proud (I think :-? ) to say I never took my skis off once except to go into the lodge for my lunch break and when I was done skiing for the day.
Same break down points as two weeks ago though the break down points were not nearly as bad and there was some acceptable skiing in between the breakdowns rather than just survival skiing. Though by the time I took my last run, it was really starting to resemble two weeks ago and I don't think keeping skis on back to the lift will be possible (or even worth while as it would technically be "possible") tomorrow and going forward until more snow is made.
T2 skied really nicely with good corn snow in some places and some frozen snow else where. Soft bumps were forming by noon time that got progressively better as the day went on. If it was not for the mid-station line, I would have hammered T2 but except for one mid-station run, I went top to bottom 7 or so times). Upper Punch was okay in places. The park made the middle section kinda worthless and overall Upper Punch not as good as T2. Lower Punch was pretty wild and fun right below the mid-station but got REALLY good after the first "major" break that some folks were taking their skis off for. Stellar soft bumps with a great line... about 10 or so in the line on the second patch. A+. And then another break and five or so quick ones and then it was survival run out time.
After lunch, I was skiing in my long sleeve shirt it was so warm and sunny. Great spring skiing today! Too bad it is not spring. Sunday River blew snow in a lot of places last week and it was nice that they got Upper Punch open for the park folks. But they blew for the Barker Quad and the South Ridge when they should have been blowing Lower Punch. Hey, maybe they did blow Lower Punch and the rain and warm temps were just that bad? It didn't look like they blew Lower Punch though...
Any ways, kind of a bummer today to have to still be dealing with slow downs and stops for downloading and then a long line at mid-station and all that. But I had an awesome time today and the price was right.
Nice to see Bob, Terry, and some other Steve's on the deck during lunch time!
