Just sort of curious. Would you rather ski at Sunday River if they were open or closed today? Lets say they made the same exact amount of snow but just decided not to open.

Personally, I would way rather be there if they were closed. The conditions would probably be better, you would get in some exercise, you wouldn't have to deal with a ton of people, and you would still probably get in just as many runs, since you can only ski one sort section of trail so many times before it gets old.

Opinions?

Closed. But you probably knew that already. The possibility exists for some more Xtreme skinning. Although probably no where near as Xtreme as say... a Firescrew-Cardigan traverse.

Typically I'd say closed for reasons already stated... right now I'm coming off a back injury and would much rather take advantage of lifts.

Was that because they tried to blow too warm, and ice covered the snow?

I'm not someone who earns his turns much. My basic feeling is that I will only hike for something that is unique and unavailable to me on lift serviced terrain. I used to hike the chin 1 in 3 times out when I lived in Stowe, I've done Tucks, though it was nearly 15 years ago, I'm sure I'd hike for the Slides at Whiteface and the Snowfields at Sugarloaf.

Outside of that, I'm taking a lift

Open...if I'm going to earn my turns, I want it to be something well worth the hiking. Besides...as someone mentioned, if it wasn't open today it would have been rough...they groomed a swath down the middle of T2 and it was pretty nice...it was soft and a 100' section got skied off quickly, but the rest of it was in pretty good shape considering. The stuff on the sides that wasn't groomed was shiney and it would have been survival skiing if that was all there was. There were about 30 people up there...I was on the 6 or so chair up, its T2 from the top to the midstation, downloading from the midstation. Sure beat doing yardwork today...actually, got my turns in and there's still 3hrs of light left for yardwork. Nice effort Boyne!

Open, I'm not in good enough shape to hike it multiple times; there I admitted it.

You guys saying closed are beyond my comprehension. I love earning turns and hiking, but for the same mountain and the same trails, I will take a lift any time versus hiking. I love earning turns and hiking and getting some exercise, but skiing all day versus two runs down the same exact trail? Nah, give me a lift. I use hiking to get to where the lifts can not access or are not currently turning.

Open. If it was closed it would have been unskiable. We saw a freezing drizzle on Tuesday morning that glazed the whole thing and it didn't unlock on Tuesday at all.

Our "top op" Ronnie Mills made a few gentle passes early on Wednesday and provided an enjoyable surface. Without the nimble cat work it would have been a glazed glacier. Also the tunes and the vibe played a helpful role. It wasn't crowded. Just jovial.

Well, not many people comprehend how much I don't like other people. If the lift was turning for just me, naturally, I'd be all over it, but if a spinning lift means dealing with other people? Feck that, I'd rather hoof it and be alone.
