That's awesome.
Good thing I lived one mile from my HS and could walk there.

I have a related story from my college years. At the ripe old age of 20 I was pulled over with two beers in my system. I paid a fine, legal fees, had to attend a driving course, and had a probationary license (I could drive to school and work). I kept driving and ignored the stipulations of my penalty. Thanks the lord that I didn't get pulled over during this time. I'm not condoning this or saying that the kids mentioned in this story should go about their normal business. But if I was dumb enough to drive on a suspended license with a DWAI on my record, what makes you think these kids will stop driving? I was at college and not under direct parental supervision. Hopefully these kid's parents will help enforce the penalty. I may not have learned my lesson on drinking too much, but now I do know enough not to get behind the wheel.

Who is going to enforce this punishment?

That would be the male and female referred to as "parents". And I'm not naive, I'm sure some parents will tell their kids to drive anyway...that's why the judge included holding the parents in contempt if they drive the kids instead of putting them on the bus.

Riding the bus reduced one of these kids to tears? Talk about being soft.

In my HS the only kids who took the bus were Freshmen and Sophomores who still hadn't gotten their licenses or who hadn't found an upperclassmen to get a ride from.

Being forced to ride a bus with "little kids" when your friends are driving their cars around is so uncool I could just shoot myself!!!! :D

I bet they won't drive to school, their parents won't drive them to school... they'll just ask a friend for a ride home.

What they have to do is have the bus driver take note of the kid being there or not.

That's what I was thinking...

Maybe the parents should also be forced to ride the bus with the kid...

Kudos to the judge for finding a punishment that may actually serve as a deterrent.
