Anyone ever hear of teleboarding?

It actually looks like something I would be very interested to try. I know of it because my skiing buddy knows the guys that invented it, as it says on their website, they live in Putnam, CT, which boarders my hometown of Woodstock.

We actually saw them at Wachusett two years ago with the thing too. It looked awesome. It looks so much more fluid and natural than a snowboard. I really hope the sport goes somewhere.

Is this something anyone else would try?

Have you ever telemarked? If so, do you know about monomarks? Which is taking a tele position for a left (or right) turn and holding it for turns in both directions. It's a teaching tool to help you feel your edges and how to weight them.

A teleboard is essentially constant monomarks. While it looks like a lot of fun, the binding skew limits you in certain ways. Personally, I wouldn't leap into it until you've had a chance to play with it for a while. I can't imagine it's easy on New England hardpack.

I'm going to borrow one from a friend and then maybe get one..
I've seen the telemarkdown guys at Tucks do it...

It intrigues me...

Wow, sixty bucks, that's a very tempting deal. I might have to do that at Wa later this winter.

We don't have a lot of claims to fame around this part of the state/NE/country, so one that we can actually be proud of... well... a rare moment indeed.

Plus it looks pretty badass.

"Yeah, one of my skis broke so I just said 'fuggit' and threw it into the woods and decided to ride on one ski... oh yeah."

Suppose anyone would buy it?

I asked the guys if they were headed to Telefest at MRG and they had a couple of choice words about the mountain....

So MRG is already aware of them... Would like to get them to demo at Hunter...

It looks like fun and wish them the best of luck...hell maybe some day I'll give it a whirl. But the claim that you could tackle bump runs like on skis....doubtful...looking at their footage, and not to sound too much like a d---, but I can bang tighter turns on my snowboard. And lots of dudes csan out turn me.

If I want bumps lines - I'll put skis on...

Tight bumps seem unatural on a snowboard... At least to me..

I'm more looking forward to laying out some carves..

last season i saw the same guy - first at stratton and weeks later at okemo - rocking on what i guess is called a teleboard. there is a fixed binding in front and a telemark type binding in the rear. he was also using ski poles like in this image: http://www.telemarkdown.com/products/pics/rentteleboards_image1.bmp

after skiing for many years and looking for a new way to slide down the slope - tried snowboarding a few times and it wasnt for me - i started monoskiing. i am therefore quite supportive of anyone trying something other than dual-skiing or snowboarding.

w/ only a spectator's view and a quick chat with the individual (as well as never having tried telemarking) it looks graceful (especiall impressive in the bumps) when one teleboards but my uninformed impression is one would want some skill before trying it.

finally in hindsight i realized i posted a reply to a poll w.out initally introducing myself (rude) and expressing my appreciation for the great source of information this forum provides.

may it snow deep and often in aught-five and aught-six!

I don't know, I saw some guy on one of those last season (not sure which mtn), but it looked real awkward to me. He was using poles and was double poling a lot. Anyone read the Monoskiing article in Skiing? (or was it SKI?) We had a monoski at the ski school I worked at in the early 90's and I actually thought it was really fun.

Nope, tele bindings front and back. The front doesn't come up nearly as much because you are doing monomarks the whole time, but the heel does lift. As I said, you can simulate a teleboard on regular tele skis by just not switching sides for the turns. I can cruise like that on blue runs, but I don't think I'd try it in the bumps just yet.

I'd say the next logical step progression to teleboarding is to develop the tele bindings so the pivot about an axis perpendicular to the board.

Now that would make things interesting.

The guy I saw at Wachusett was using two polls, and he looked very natural and relaxed. And very smooth. But like I said, it was one of the guys that invented it, so I'd hope he'd know what he's doing.

There's a good article in the new Skiing about "monoboarding". With someone famous, who's name escapes me (Jeff Nobis? Not sure).

I always use hiking poles to snowboard down a bumpy Sherburne Trail at Tuckermans with my heavy pack on... If it werent for the poles - I'd probably have problems keeping balance..

Right, not implying I was surprised he looked natural with polls, just that it seems like polls would be a logical choice for teleboarding... the inventor practicing this was simply meant as corroborating evidence.
