They have asked us for examples were a terrain park has created better business for the mountain. That’s were I am asking for your help. I have search the internet with no results. I was wondering if someone had any information or articles that would help convince are management to build a terrain park at are mountain.

Thank You,
Greg

I’m not one to criticize forum spelling, but don’t you think Greg should know how to spell skiing?

I realized I misspelled it but I couldn't figure out how to change it, and the forum will not allow me to make another account without having a different email address.

I don't ski there, but I would think Crotched would be a good example. What mountain do you work for? Location and local demographics I would think are big factors towards how well a park is received.

I would check out www.newschoolers.com Big Boulder and Bear Creek are both little sub 500 vertical foot Pennsylvania hills that both have 3-4 terrain parks each..the terrain parks do a great job attracting kids and teenagers to the sport. Blue mountain where I have a season pass is considered a large PA ski area and they have a halfpipe, a large terrain park, and two smaller terrain parks along with a boardercross/skiercross course. The good thing is all the school groups that come up night skiing during the week hang out in the parks leaving the other trails empty. For smaller resorts..a terrain park is essential to entertain the parkrats..otherwise they'll be building kickers on the side of the trails and hot dogging it in skier traffic.

I wonder how many injuries this saves. Getting people to take their craziness to a different area, rather than around people not expecting a person to come flying out of nowhere.

Mt. Creek in NJ, is not a very impressive mountain terrain wise. But they are known for their parks. Up until recently they would hold national events. You can make up for your lack of terrain by offering other features.

this saves more injuries than you could ever imagine.

To my man who is trying to get the hill to build a park. I want you to drop me an email. I build park at Ski Sundown, CT. We do everything ourselves, including rail fab, snow making and grooming, events, sponsorship (for park and atheletes).... Its a department that is 100% melded with the ski area. jarrod@skisundown.com I'll point you in the right direction.

Sweet! I love it how folks can use this board to make contacts. I know nothing about terrain parks, but Sundown's seems to be up there with the top parks in SNE.

If memory serves me, (which it most likely doesn't) Ski Area Management magazine did an article that, at least in-part, touched on this.

Other person to get in touch with is Elijah at Mount Snow...he's in charge of their parks and is well respected in the industry. There was an article in SAM...not sure when though...and for what its worth, both Ski Racing and The Professional Skier (PSIA's mag) featured half pipe cover shots this past season.

Loon has a good reputaion for parks. The park guy was hired to set up the the Sr and Sl parks. All in the Boyne family. It was in one of the Alpine Zone news I think a way back. I would bet bvibert could find it.:-?
