Family, Food, Football - what's not to like!

1) Family= fights or political shouting matches
2) Food= Ok but you want to leave the table because of 1
3) Football = thank god

I hate holidays

personally, i dont like it at all (and the forecast is for rain)....for me, waste of a day..hanging around for a plate of food (i'd be happy with some ritz and peanut butter), i dont watch football, rather be out surfing, riding, skiing, kayaking......its not like we have relatives come from far and wide that we never see,,,,,i see these people all the time..dont get me wrong, i love em.....just dont like the day

Day off, beer, football- a good day in my book. Never understood the hype over the actual Thanksgiving meal though. Seems almost everyone gets excited over heaping plates of mashed potatos and turkey. Not to say I don't enjoy the meal every year, but pretty boring stuff really. I can think of dozens of meals I would prefer.

What's not to like? Stuffing, gravy, potatoes, turkey, dessert....YUM. I never make a whole bird at home since we only eat white meat so it's a real treat for us. And since we don't make the meal, it's even better. I'll gladly make 1 or 2 desserts to share at my parents' and sister-in-law's homes rather than cook all that food for just the 4 of us.

I live 6.5 hours away from the rest of my family. Hate the drive, but other than that, it's nice to see people. Thanksgiving, Christmas, weddings, funerals. Only times I see everyone.

No politics at the table. I travel to see relatives and stories tend to revolve around reminiscing about the good old days. It helps to come from a family of jokers. So much laughter, there's always a danger of someone choking on their food. The only thing I don't like about Thanksgiving is feeling so stuffed after dinner. I have to walk around the block just to breathe. T-day is excellent in my book!

Absolutely Fabulous Holiday -- relaxed fun with my adult children and grandchildren and other in-laws who genuinely ENJOY each others company for the entire weekend .Our house will be full with 10 of us for the entire weekend ----- then wash , rinse and dry and it happens all over again for 10 days during Xmas .

These are 2 of the 3 major extended stays we HOST for them all . Lots o work but WORTH it and lets face it How much longer do I have @67 so i'm more than happy to do this while i'm HERE :D:D so we all can Make memories

The entire family skis so we have some nice days out on the slopes followed by great meals here -- and games with the kids and Jamm sessions we have 4 guitarists a keyboardist and a drummer among us so it ain't BORING :D

AGREED!! I also agree with the other poster who said "We laugh so much that there's a danger of choking on the food." : )

I'm excited because we're going to MD to see my son, DIL and grandbaby. It'll be just 5.5 of us, but that's okay.

Like Warp, I'll have a houseful very soon. It's not our turn to have the married couple for Christmas (it's the bride's family's turn) BUT, as a surprise, she bought them plane tickets to come to NH over New Year's!! YUP, gonna have 'em all home and skiing. Can't wait!

(I'm so excited about this Thanksgiving, I totally forgot about the past 6 or so. We usually go to my brother's house. Thankfully his in-laws are interesting, but on the whole it's been a boring holiday ever since my kids stopped coming with us.)

Ditto...and if there's sufficient new snow.....either an uncrowded ski area nearby...or if you're away from it all...hiking(with little snow...OR snowshoeing)...I'm a winter hiking nut.....xc or AT....can be great the next day. Ditto riverc0il, the holiday itself can be a good one.

I hate Thanksgiving.

My family is not close at all. We get together for thanksgiving every year, just because that is what they have always done. There is a reason I only see most of these people 1 time a year....

I am not a fan of turkey so really dont enjoy the food.

I get the day off from work, but loose my regular Monday off to make up for it...

In the family the "kids" who have gotten married mostly go off and spend it with their family or the in-laws. My parents told me I can skip going this year. I plan to hopefully go skiing and eat a nice steak for dinner sitting in my Lazy-Boy watchin football.
